Modem Question.

Hi all,

So this is probably quite an obvious question - but here goes anyway!
When using a modem in bridge mode, and a separate router (where you fill in the login details for the modem to establish connection etc) - does the sync rate come from the modem or the router that is logged into the modem?

The reason I ask, is that my modem is at one side of the house and my router on the other (the house is quite long, and I didn't want to increase my phone line length). My current sync rate is decent, but just wanted to know which device actually determines sync speed?

The sync rate is negotiated between the modem and the DSLAM

So I suppose another question I have following on from this, was if i was to reboot the router would the modem keep the connection going regardless or would it result in a disconnect?

The modem would keep the connection. That is one of the (sometimes huge) advantages of having the two separate bits of kit .

Rebooting the router would drop the pppoe session, but the modem would remain synced to the DSLAM.

It would maintain the same sync speed, dsl sync won't drop, but a new PPP session may give a different IP address.

And given the DSL connection not dropping, any fault with the router shouldn't result in any DLM problems?
