Just so everyone knows what a VDSL termination looks like I have uploaded an image:
VDSL Termination
It is worth noting that the two screws at the front also hold the filter/splitter in place and if the telephony front plate is removed for any period of time it will be best to secure the VDSL termination.

thanks for that. So you can get to the original NTE5 test socket by pulling the VDSL iplate if need be.

Correct ...
All the technician did was to remove the ADSL front plate and plug in the VDSL then fit an original voice NTE5 lower half.

'course the 'original' ADSL faceplate filters do exactly the same thing. Less unsightly, and, surprise, surprise, they cost more !

|
The original adsl install needed a Precision Test Officer to do a insertion loss test and an installer to fit an BT NTE faceplate adapter.
I predict FTTC will be self install very shortly with dongle filters and a jumper runner at the cabinet in the morning and on MDF recovery in the afternoon.
The prices BT and shorty TalkTalk and Sky charge need self install.

that faceplate is a simple user fit, could be used for ADSL too (at least where there's an NTE5). Avoids the need for end users to do IDC connections.

Extremely daft question but.. are all Openreach FTTC/FTTH connections presented at the customer's end this way?

As far as I have seen for FTTC, yes. FTTH will be different with a fibre termination but have not seen any.

Extremely daft question but.. are all Openreach FTTC/FTTH connections presented at the customer's end this way? Yes but! It looks as though as long as you hang on to your existing faceplate rather than letting the engineer junk it, you can put it back when he has gone.
