Afternoon all,

I would like to advise that we are going to continue to offer free install on our Home and Business FTTC products during March 2011.

That's good news, though I'll bet you'll have stopped the free installs by the time BT get their finger out here.

If Obit (now Daisy Wholesale) who Titan purchase from can maintain unrealistic usage levels, then I welcome them giving it a go.

However, my thread starter was about our products doing free install. Titan charge £49.99 which I presume is inc VAT, as there web site does not make it clear.

Isn't 60gb like... Nothing? I've hit (and been warned for) my 40gb limit on my 3mb connection a few times.

Oh.. derp. Off-peak is "relaxed". My bad.

Sorry to say but the usage allowance is rubbish considering the peak time starts from 8:00am to 12:00pm midnight...

How many will actually get up early in the mornings of stay back late in the night or leave their PC's on during the night to perform the downloads?

It's worse that what BT are offering currently...

No one is able to match or come close to what BT are offering. It has been done deliberately to convert customers back for them, even if it is a loss-leading product in the short term.

I am on their Business 90 service, yes they may be slightly more expensive than others but their service is fantastic, so for me the extra expense is well worth it. I chose them over Vivaciti after speaking to Martin directly who knew what he was talking about and was happy to answer my (millions of) questions, plus the free install offer allowed me to put some money towards a decent wireless router.

Thank you for your comments. Our products are very much inline with the majority of the "realistic" market offerings. However, I do believe you overlooked the fact that our weekends are not considered peak and also skimmed over our shorter contract periods than BT Retail.

Quality connections require a little hand in the pocket (the same since the days of dial-up). BT Retail aim for certain market, it's just not the same customer we aim at. I know for many old school who like me have been using the internet since the early 90s, this is preaching to those who have been stung before.

To answer your question directly, many customers do leave computers on overnight, thus queuing of downloads or backing up data off-site is possible.

For the dozen or so customers joining us daily for FTTC solutions, our products are clearly looking more appealing than BT. Worse for some is a gem for others.

Not sure I understand your point but Business broadband also come with the same resitrictions as residential broadband unless I have missed something

"Our business packages come with an inclusive monthly peak usage allowance. This usage is consumed by both downloading and uploading data between the hours of 8.00am until 8.00pm, Monday to Friday. At all other times we offer an relaxed unlimited off-peak period. The off-peak period could be used to schedule Windows Updates, BBC iPlayer/Sky Player downloads or similar which are generally quite large."

I did look at the weekends offering and I believe that usage will be higher during the weekends irrespective of whether you class it as peak or offpeak... That's the time majority of the people are in the house and catch up on their shows and other bits... So they will be stung by contention anyways.

Little???

"Our fibre services come with a range of options that can be added at any time. You can increase your upload speed from 2Mbps to 10Mbps (up to speeds) for £1.20 a month. You can also upgrade from a single static IP to a no-nat range of 8 static IPs for £2.40 a month. If you want BT Openreach to repair reported faults quicker, then you can upgrade to Enhanced Care for £12.00 a month or if you wish to ensure BT maintain a higher network quality on your line, consider adding Elevated Best Efforts for £7.20 a month. If your unsure what any of this means, then do get in touch."

The business package is 8am-8pm, instead of 8am-12pm on the residential package.

His point is that for a lot of people, 8pm onwards is when their peak usage is. By the time I have got home from work, ****, shaved and showered, had my tea and got the kids to bed, it's normally eight o'clock anyway!

I expect that is the same for a lot of working folk. blush

Without knowing the Aquiss clientbase, that statement is based on presumption. Our customer base is mainly business and small office clients with 75% of our traffic being during the business daytime.

Contention is a completely different argument to peak usage hours, and is definitely not going to be discernible with BT themselves.

I'd be interested to know what these unrealistic offerings are, in your opinion.

Having taken a look at your site, the only thing I can see that appears "better" than BT is the shorter contract but as your packages are more expensive it doesn't really make a difference. Also, your offerings suffer from restrictive usage allowances, 16 hour a day peak periods and seem to have 2mbit upload.

The static IP is nice, but essentially niche in the home market.

I think it all changes now

"Yes, this is true! BT Total Broadband and BT Infinity customers will benefit from the removal of Fair Usage Policy (FUP) controls when they begin to be removed from April 2011. Once removed, heavy user customers will be able to download/stream as much as they wish without having their speeds restricted.

BT will remove the FUP controls currently applied to customers with atypical usage. Today atypical users are restricted at 300GB usage and account for less than 0.5% of the BT customer base. BT will not target any individuals with restrictions based on usage levels. However, we still have traffic management policies that will restrict certain applications / protocols, such as P2P, when the network is busy.

As BT continues to invest in the network and network bandwidth we can now remove these restrictions and ensure the experience of the wider customer base.

(Note that charges will still apply for going over limits on BT Total Broadband Options 1&2 and BT Infinity Option 1 but traffic will not be managed.)

BT clearly confident that the networks and any upgrades can easily accommodate higher user numbers and any associated increase in actual use.

They still reserve the right to manage protocols when its "busy" but removing the FUP conditions is definitely a positive sign that they think the system can cope.
