If its like my last home they concentrated on VM enabled areas only then complain of low take up. They could have paid me to give them that answer!

No VM at all here and some areas of the town are live for FTTC.

In Northern Ireland, VM has a presence in the Greater Belfast area only. The DETI Next Gen Broadband Project has put £18m towards the rollout of FTTC with BT putting in over £30m. BT has also announce further investment for an additional 780 Cabinets to be FTTC enabled which is a very large investment.

No other telco is providing this level of invesment anywhere else in the UK. Also, when BT say they are investing £2.5 billion, that is their contribution to the FTTC rollout and does not include other goverment money.

Yep...Telewest/Virgin/NTL pretty much went bust before they could complete the roll out here. So you have a town like mine with nearly 30,000 lines all set up and ready to go for ADSL and now FTTC and BT are raking it in. So far they've completed 45 cabinets which mainly cover the "suburbs". When they do the town centre it'll be even more people.

Then take other towns like Newtownards, Carrickfergus, Newry, Portadown, Lurgan, Coleraine or Larne. All decent size towns with no VM coverage whatsoever.

Repeat this for most of Scotland, Wales, South West and North of England.

Doesn't help that Virgin seem to be liars about their coverage. Apparently cable is available everywhere in N.I. News to me

Here in Lisburn VM have probably about 40% (max) covered - there's a line and on one side you can get VM & on the other you can't.

FTTC cabs seem to be being installed in main road parts of estates here (from what I've noticed so far) so only parts of areas are being enabled and the further in you are the less chance of getting FTTC.

Areas off main roads seem to be being excluded from the FTTC roll out for the moment. If BT roll out FTTC cabs into estates/areas off the main roads then I would bet they will get a lot more people wanting the faster speeds.
