Waiting for Openreach to turn up and install Infinity. I got the 08:00 - 13:00 slot. I hope that they do turn up. It would be just my luck if something has gone wrong.

Good luck .
Don't forget to get the sync speeds off him, and possibly the distance it tells him, you can't get them any other way.

I intend to ask if I can take a photo of the screen, so that i'll have a record. I don't mind too much if he is late (me impatient?) but i'll not be very happy if they don't turn up as I have taken the day off work for this.

BT been and gone, getting full 40/10, they did not use a JDSU so don't know line length. Tests done using phone. They get the results as a text. so only very basic info.
I now have a much bigger box on my window sill.

I'm used to fast speeds as work is on gigabit fibre (though my work computer goes through a 100Mbit switch)
and I have seen 11MB/sec downloading stuff for work.
It's daft that I can now upload stuff only slightly slower than I could download on Be*. The Speed tests show an upload around 1.1MB/sec and my download on Be* was 1.4MB/sec. All good stuff though
Edit: I was the first on my cab too, mind you I did place the order the day it went live.

They did actually turn up within the time slot, though it was about 40 mins before the end. They had just spent 3 hours at another property who had a fault. (turned out that BT still had them on the old profile and had not changed it to the one for infinity).

Very nice.... ! Some of us still have to wait for the cab to be updated, even with being about 1km from the exchange. Other cabs further from me have been done too which is what annoys :-/ Still no idea which ISP I'd choose however, should the FTTC cab be installed!

The "comb filter" effect? Thats the BE supplied TG585v7 in bridge mode with Ethernet port 1 connected to my Draytek 2820. The latency is BE's gaming mode enabled. (mostly fast path).
I wonder if the comb effect bars are spaced closer together the higher the sync.
Its definitely the 585v7, as if I swap it for the Draytek in ADSL mode, they vanish completely, however I get a lot of disconnections per week. The 585v7 hangs in.
The tbb flash test showing 15.22 Mbps download, 1.09 Mbps upload - and the mini graph is a straight line, no dips. The tbb java test shows 14.9 Mbps download, 1.1 Mbps upload.

The 1.4mb is in megabits NOT megabytes so 1.4mbps =0.1708984375 megabytes per second so if you are seeing 1.1MB/s then that =8.8mbps which is over 6x as fast
as a guide 1MB= 8mbps (8000kbps) so your headline speed as reported is 4.2MB/s
=33.6mbps (33600kbps) from the max40mbps sync (40000kbps) 4.8828125 MB/S puts you somewhere near the mark, you will never ever get the full sync with btw systems

Did you miss that the comparison was of FTTC upload and Be LLU download?
A 1.1Mbps upload on FTTC, (and by the way as your point is about units, many people regard mbps as milli-bits/s, as opposed to Mbps = Megabits/s), would be dire, and so would a 1.4Mbps dowload on Be LLU. So we can assume he does indeed mean MegaBytes in both cases.

I did indeed mean MegaBytes in both cases, you are quite correct.
BT speed tester doesn't seem to want to go above about 28Mbps at the moment. Upload is somewhere between 7-8Mbps. I have dropped the PPPoE link a few times but not the modem to cab link. According to the BT engineer I have the full 40/10 sync and the line profile is 38717/10000.

How long did this take from initial order to the BT visit and VDSL modem?
Was supposed to be up and running at the 7 April but new ISP dragged their feet and placed order with BT this morning at 10.28am.

|

I placed the order on the 31st March (The day my cabinet became live) and was activated on the 8th April, so 8 days including a weekend.

Thanks, exactly what i thought.
Done the deed on line with ADSL24 on 28 March and had confirmation by 12.05hrs.
Paid set up fee and month up front.
Put down 7 April for changeover.
Late 7 April sent a ticket, responded Monday 11 April saying having trouble with 12 April.
I am without connection after today cannot get at updates and answers to tickets.
Reading betwen the lines they placed order with BT at 10.28am yesterday morning so dragged their feet for over 10 working days. 19 April provisionally meaning add a week or two to that.
In light of a some bad reports and continual checking over two months with tickets and phone calls, gave them a retry they used to be very good.
Cancelled by phone demanding setup fee and month up front was agreed, point being i am without connection and need it for my business. Cant even pay myself, transfer, buy etc!

Several people here have gone with Aquiss and seem very pleased with them, I considered going to them myself but had to consider my wallet. It would have been nearly double what I was paying Be*.
