Up to yesterday The BT speedchecker said that fibre was not planned for the next 6 months in this area, today it's available and we've been receiving sales phone calls and literature from BT for Infinity for the past 6 weeks or so.
So the Question is are BT deliberatly delaying the acurate updating of the speedchecking databases until there sales people have done there work to get an advantage over their competitors or are they just incompetent.
I know which theory I believe.

Usually the literature is a bit ahead of time but they wouldn't/shouldn't be on the phone to you before it's available. Why try to sell you something you can't have.
Might be the checking database was slow getting updated.
Are you a BT Broadband customer?

The BT Infinity checker is definitely affected by Marketing plans for each area.
The BT Wholesale checker is honest so far as I know, but gets confused in the last couple of weeks before live.
The two have differed a few times in the past, and not just because the Infinity one doesn't display below 15Mbps.

The cabinet went live 2 days ago the sales phone call was at least 4 weeks ago (when the BT speedchecker said that FTTC was not available for the next 6 months) the call mentioned that fibre was being installed in the area and was I interested in BT Infinity. I can't tell you what would have happened if I'd of shown any interest as I'm quite happy with my BE connection.
personally I think tying you into an 18 month contract before your competitors have a chance is a strong motivation, but as I say I don't know if they could have signed me up at that time as I didn't go ahead with it, It's possibly to do with common 30 day notice periods.
the speedchecker was updated the day it went live which I believe is not unusual.

Personally I think you are quite reasonable to suggest, sneaky practice. To coin the much loved sentence; where there is a profit to be made as they are a business. Often used in Bts defense in its profitable deployment of Infinity.
You would also have to expect them to continue exploit any advantage to maintain those profit margins.
My views are my experiences.

Have a read of this as it indicates some of the problems BT may face with the installation of FTTC http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2010608/BT-s...

A great example of how to use a picture to distort the truth ... Look how she has her leg bent and is leaning forward to give the impression the cabinet is massive!
The position is shielded by a wall and trees, so how can it obstruct her view, unless she likes looking down at the pavement surface.
She claims it is outside her gate - no, it it is against a boundary wall on the PUBLIC highway.
She claims it is 3 feet higher that her wall - rubbish, especially as that would make her 7 feet tall!

Yes quite so. I only linked it to indicate that installing them does not always meet with universal approval.
Would love to live at her address, with a cab so close!!

Have looked at the picture and I strongly suspect your comments would fall away if a second picture had been included to show it from a different perspective.

I can see why she personally objects to its location. It does rather stand out from her perspective.

..... amazing, you would have thought even an Umpa-Lumpa would want faster internet access ! Unusual for the Mail not to come up with some, 'DSLAM cabinet makes house prices tumble' angle for the story !

I would willingly have a new cabinet placed in my front garden - especially if it meant that I would get a FTTC service in the guaranteed near future rather than a RFS date some time in March 2012...... if they gave me FTTH for free even better.

I think thats unfair as looking at the picture in the other report I linked to, there has been some work at the front including lowering the wall and clearing much of the over growth.Street view is usefull but most of it is now several years old .
The cabinet does appears to be sited immediately next to the entrance. Its also some distance from what I presume is the main cabinet its linked to. Openreach must have their reasons for wanting to site it there, but it does seem somewhat inconsiderate.
Its there now as there is no prior planning approval required, and there is no appeal process for her so she is going to have to battle with Openreach/BT to try and get them to agree to re-site it..

I would gladly have it on the side of my house, if any BT employees are looking here, please pm me and we will get the ball rolling.

The worst part is at the side of my house, I have a much higher brick wall which would have been a perfect place to site the cabinet.
She was quite happy to have it at the side of her house, but that's not where they put it!
She also said "I am not even a BT customer." which we all know is irrelevant but I expect 95%+ of the public that know about FTTC equate it with BT Infinity, which is kind of where this thread came in.

I suspect the reason for its position may be to do with easy acess to mains electricity.
Her property seems one of the few where the front garden is not used for parking (you can see that the curbs have been lowered in front of some) I suppose she could argue that Openreach have now restricted her from doing the same and that as electric cars become more popular, off street parking may become more important to allow them to be charged.
Had she applied to the council to use her garden for this purpose, and to get the curb lowered, then this would have come up as Openreach consulted with them and the cab sited eleswhere.
I am not making excuses for Openreach, and it may not have taken much effort so put the cab around the corner, but if you live in a similar street and would rather not have a cab outside, then a little action may prevent trying to get it moved later.

However we all know what mindset reads the Mail franchise. They are closer to being Socialists, be that National, than they think!

I agree I noticed the trees also. Valid complaint regarding the noise and not been given advance notice of work, but the blocking of view seems very petty. The FTTC will actually raise the value of her home, not lower it.

From the last sentence in the DM article, "Unfortunately Mrs Russells property was accidentally disconnected from the gas supply."
I hope that Open Reach's contractors didn't mistake the gas pipe for a cable duct and tried feeding their new cable through it. I understand that they 'blow' the fibe through the duct..........
Cheers!
