How long does it take for a FTTC cab to appear once the existing PCP cab has been re-shelled? Id like to hear from anyone who's had thier PCP's re-shelled and then witnessed their FTTC cabs being installed thereafter, cheers!
TIA.

Most cabinets are not reshelled prior to FTTC

If a re-shell is required for FTTC (and there maybe other reasons for a re-shell) its often done several months before the FTTC cabinets are installed.

Well the ones that are cast-iron shells are replaced with sheet-metal or fibreglass. Those already sheet-metal or fibreglass remain as they are. The newer PCP allow sufficient space for the link cable terminations.

This doesn't seem to be the case here, as mine was replaced but an identical old style one around 600m away was left as it was, so I'm not sure of the criteria for re-shelling PCPs. Both PCPs now have FTTC cabs next to them.

My guess would be whether the pcp has capacity for another 100 dsides added and if it can't whether cabinet grooming is not possible.

I think our PCP cab was done the same week the FTTC cab was installed, because one week there was just one old ratty looking PCP then the next week there was two shiny new cabs.

The cast iron ones near me have not been reshelled and FTTC has been rolled out, mine is scheduled for the morning of Friday 23rd. That said, the original cast iron cabinet 10 minutes walk away was reshelled a couple of months back.
Seeing "mine" open the other week, was shocked to see just a jumble of wires and gel crimps, rather than neat rows of termination strips that I have seen elsewhere.
Makes me wonder how the OR engineer will locate my pair in that mess? Also, since 9 years back they found a different pair to improve a noisy line, I hope their records are up to date, since there is a posibility that I may be on the other cabinet which serves my postcode...
Cheers!
I intend to post how it goes on Friday afternoon.

The PCP that serves me was re-shelled at the same time as the FTTC CAB was installed.

My PCP has been re-shelled for over a month now and the dates on the bt adsl checker has been pushed back around 5 times now, and currently says its due on 31st December. Wonder why its taking them so long to get the fttc installed

Mine was re-shelled in January. Original FTTC date on the checker was July 2010 (last year!); and then moved to March 2011, then July 2011, then Sept 2011, now its Dec 2011.
I'd say there is no connection.

Is the FTTC cab insatlled nex to the existing PCP or are you still waiting for the installment?

And not all reshells are to do with FTTC.

Do you know your exchange and cab number?

Still waiting
Other cabs (PCP's) in the same main road (either end, mine is in the middle) have their FTTC cabs. Neither of those was re-shelled before.

They are numbered.

The spare pair will have been through the same cab. E-side records are usually gospel, D-sides .... If it is a real problem, you just tone from the NTE.

Well, he found my pair. Interestingly not in the cabinet which a local OR engineer thought they would be in.
Two OR engineers attended, one a recent ex-forces guy and his supervisor. They appreciated the tea/coffee/fresh orange juice and jaffa cakes! They were happy to show me the sync rates, 1999 and 35291 and he screwed the EchoLife to the near vertical plywood. Interestingly(?) the first filtered faceplate he opened was a dud, one of the pins on the plug was damaged.
Although got a EchoLife 2B, seems there is a later version 3B(?) as well.
All I have to do now is persuade my Linksys PAP2T-UK and Billion 7800n combination to talk to DrayTel, my VoIP supplier. (DrayTel suggest I change a Firewall setting in the Openreach modem (ooops!) admittedly the EchoLife box it has a built in Firewall. Andrews and Arnold think there may be a NAT issue and they have a fix for that; meanwhile Google tells me there may be a Billion 7800n issue, ah well happy days.... Strangely, I can make VoIP calls but incoming calls are picked up at DrayTel as voicemail. Generally, I only use VoIP to receive and use my BT line for outgoing calls which are inclusive.
Cheers!

Your cabinet must be a bit of a distance away from you judgting from the sync speeds

Both cabinets are about 500 metres away minimum, and likely not too much more. However the underground cable between cabinet and pole is, I was told a few yeras back, aluminium. In 2000 (when house owned by my mother-in-law) the best dial up speed here was just under 20k with the exchange about 1865 metres, whereas same laptop in our house a few miles away on another exchage could give me 50k despite being about three times the house/exchange distance. So guess I'm luck to get what I have.
Cheers!

2V = v2
2B = v3
So you got a v3

I had a similar problem with my VOIP service (Voipfone) when I changed to infinity. I cannot now remember which way around it was and it took a while to find the correct settings for my ATA ( Zoom 5801).
I contacted Voipfone support and tried their suggestions but nothing worked. As a test I tried a softphone on the computer and that was ok, so that told me that at least SIP was not being blocked. Still not sure why it should go from working to not working just because of a change of ISP.

The difference being easily spotted, the 3B has a white power supply. Not fitting a 2B or 3B is a big no-no, they are checking, and any engineer installing a 2V will get a 10 point failure (not good) against them. They are now asking fibre trained engineers, who might come across a 2V in their travels to swap them out no matter what they are on site for !

2V = v2
2B = v3 So what is a 3B? That variant now appears at new installs.

Good question, I don't know if you missed Zarjaz's post above yours.

Very interesting, how are they checking if a 2B/3B was installed? What would be the reason to want to swap out the 2v no matter what? Are they doing it while it's costing them nothing or are the 2v fundamentally flawed somehow, heat/performance issues?
Sorry for all the questions.

I don't know if you missed Zarjaz's post above yours. Yes, I did (somehow). Thanks for the prod!

Pass, but they ARE testing them, I guess looking at the firmware remotely ?

They are, on the whole, borked. I dread to think how many have had to be replaced already, yes it's the heat/performance thing. In terms of cost, they are telling engineers to replace where ever they come across them, I suspect this will avoid some appointments having to be made, and I suppose get the little blighters replaced sooner than later.
