Strange speed increase

Im on bt option 3 with fibre as I'm about 1000m from the cab, anyway for the last few months I've been getting 21 mb down. After flashing the modern my maximum line attainable was reported at 28mb, the checker told me I would only get 7 mb down I was over the moon with 21mb, and this is how it's stayed for three months.
Just checked the stats this morning and now my maximum attainable is 41mb down and I'm syncing at 32mb with an snr of 7.5, anyone else had anything like this happen?.

My actual speed hasn't changed (although I may try a modem reboot).

Also, what does the checker say for you now?

Just checked and it now says I can get 13.2mb so it's gone up, shame as if it was over 15mb I could of got them to switch me to infinity.

If you want the higher upload then plenty of other ISPs will let you have it, even if BT limit you to the 2Mbps. As for the download, Infinity would make no difference.

What ever has happened my ip profile is now stuck at 32339, so maybe they have upgraded something in the cab or the exchange And my line must of kept resyncing. At the best I could download at 2.8 but now I'm getting 4.2 so really happy with what ever they have done.

I think the change may be one of 2 things;

1. BT catching up with real-life speeds as more and more lines have FTTC activated on them, so they are able to give better estimates
2. VDSL2 profile 17a kicking in

17a is now enabled on my line and we gained about 6Mbit extra

My data on the checker has gone from 14.7 d/s to 23.8, which is a lot closer to my actual real world speed of 28ish Mb/s. Upstream however says 5.8, (I can't remember if the checker ever gave an u/s figure ?) but actual is 8ish Mb/s

Hi Orly,

Just for curiosity, what was your pre-install estimated speed?
Mine was 14.6Mb & it has just this week gone up to 24Mb.

I have had all sorts of issues with my connection that my ISP said couldn't be reported to BT as my speed was above the estimate.
Well, now they [censored] well can.

I started off with 33Mb actual downloads that dropped to as low as 7Mb at one point.

My current download speeds are around 19.5Mb.

P.S. Did anyone notify you of the switch to 17a profile, or did it just happen as if by magic?

P.P.S. I have reboted my modem, but am still using profile 8c.
