My experience of the 2 providers I get FTTC through (currently) is that I consume a lot more bandwidth than I thought. I used to monitor my usage and it was very small. Both of the current providers however seem to measure bandwidth as both upload and download, which I don't think they did before.
I use Skype a lot and it seem to detect the larger pipe and on occasions start using it, with no regard for the bandwidth consumed. (I know this has been mentioned elsewhere on these forums).
My suggestion is that anyone moving to FTTC considers the bandwidth they may require quite carefully. Most companies will let you increase it, but that may mean you have to start your contract again.
Otherwise I am absolutely delighted, with the service.
