[link to this post]

just checked and my FTTC has gone from December 2011 to march 2012 this is like the 4th time its changes i know people are going to say its a big job give it time,
But i dont see what the prob is according to OR PDF my exchange is taking orders so obvs one of the other cabs is active,
Plus my cab has been there since March this year it was powered on in July ready for the sep activation then it got moved to dec now its moved to march but the cab is still powered on so i ask why are they so friggin useless.

You're not alone. My exchange was active in 2009, other roads near me have FTTC cabs, but mine hasn't arrived. The date on the checker has changed 6 times, but was Dec 2011 recently - but last monday vanished.

This mornings database issue aside (!) - there is no info now from OR if I'm ever going to get FTTC.

James - be* pro - on THFB - sync about 17.2mbps - BQM

crazy like i say the more frustrating thing is i know for a fact my cabs there and been turned on for 5 months lol and even worse the add salt to the wound a BT OR engineer told me last month when he fitted my talktalk line that it was defo going to be enabled this month lol.

He asked me why id chose talktalk as my provider and i said because i want FTTC thats unlimited without spending an arm and a leg and my mum got a vendetta against BT retail lol so talktalks the only other one,
He gos oh well you in luck they've had us in the darton exchange all this week making the final touches for the December activation there was some problems that stopped the september 1 and your cabs defo getting done thats when i thought to my self oh this dates actually looking good (seen as that was 3rd date change in past lol)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but what you are experiencing is not localised. Our EARAY BT Exchange had a date of 31/03/2012 for FTTC, but now it's 31/12/2012 frown
Although from another perspective, I've gained substantially from recently switching from Orange Broadband/Phone rental & calls to same package with BT. It will be more expensive, but I have a negotiated first 12 months @ £25.10 for everything + plus charge for any calls made during weekdays, then the basic monthly charge increases to £34.10 for the 6 months remaining of the contract.
The main reason for doing this was because we frequently experienced almost stutteringly low download speeds during peak times = 1Meg; but now with BT I have not fallen below 13.1Meg 24-7 since 12/12/2011(my start date with new ISP). Also, while on Orange, BT OpenReach engineers visited me 3 times FOC, and found two external cabling probs & also fitted the latest master socket with built in filter. So proves the case that one man's meat can be another's poison wink

If you hate BT so much why don't you demand that Talk Talk install an FTTC service?

BT have doe a lot more to provide faster services in the UK than any other company and often they are forced to make investments at levels which do not generate a satisfactory return on capital.

I dont hate BT my mum dose i wanted to go with BT she said you want bt you move out (they messed up mega big time like 15 year ago and it really made her despise them)

i just think there useless in the fact something can be there half a year wasting power and still not use it i mean i understand these things take time but the fibres laid the cabs there powered on and other cabs on the exchange are taking orders so why not this one crazy

there are a number of reasons this can happen but sugges t this is a planning or a siting issue on yout cabinet -- which is why its rolls oever each Quarter and will continue to do so --

it may bw worth asking your local council to see if they have had a planning notigication for that cab and what it status is

Which still doesn't make up for all the years they sat on their monopoly without investing in the infrastructure whilst creaming off the profits. Europe and the rest of the world have had much better broadband for years.

They had nothing else to do... OFCOM had forbidden them to offer domestic fibre broadband, so investment in a domestic fibre infrastructure would bring down OFCOMs wrath.
They couldn't buy any other UK telecoms with any war chest that they accrue...so profits were returned to shareholders.... which is the norm.

The recent superfast availability stats from Ofcom were interesting, both actual numbers and difficulty in getting good data

Total rubbish ...

BT has continuously invested in the infrastructure - as far as they were allowed. They did not cream off the profits and the rest of the world have not had much better broadband for years. I know of many countries were ADSL is not even on the horizon, or places in the US, France, Germany, Australia, Norway, S Africa where they have basic ADSL offering 2Mbps and nothing more.

I knew i forgetting something about investment in telecoms since privitisation...

they built up a successful mobile phone network (BT cellnet, later known as O2) and then sold it for £18billion.

They did not sell it ... BT split into two companies. BT and mmO2 and the latter was finally bought by Telefonica.

Absolutely correct! it's called managing statistics wink

However on another more positive note, I'm still really pleased with the consistently higher speeds I'm getting from BT, and it proves the old saying .......... you get what you pay for smile
Glad that I did not go to BT for their forum - it's something else frown
as only one man/woman and his or her dog appears to be using it ............. what a waste of Corporate £millions!

Shareholders were not GIVEN any shares. What they received in exchange for BT shares were shares of an equal and equivalent value in te two companies.

Go back and look at how many BILLIONS BT share holders paid for the shares, how much they then paid in rights issues over the years. the shareholders return on investment over the past 10 or 20 years has probably been around te same as an investment in a bank/buildiong society savings account.

Sorry you don't seem to understand that i agreed with you...

Yes, in the split shares were issued to BT shareholders for equivalent value in the two companies. Surrendering the original BT shares and being GIVEN two sets of new notes, one for new BT shares and one for O2 shares. I wasn't impying they magicked up cash for nothing... or are you just nit picking for nit picking's sake?

Those shareholders who kept the O2 shares, then received ~£18 billion from Telefonica when they were taken over. Original note value ~82.75p received 200p...
