Hi,
Could someone with a bit of know how find out when my cabinet might get upgraded? My postcode is G77 5ED.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Your post code does not seem to show on the December 2012 PCP spreadsheet here;
https://www.google.com/fusiontables/DataSource?snapi...
Are you Newton Mearns? if so, it looks like partial FTTC is already up and running, for some reason your cabinet is not showing for upgrade yet, but it may come up for upgrade in the future.
My exchange (Dunfermline) had some cabinets installed in phase 4a, some in 6a and now some new upgrades are to happen with phase 9b.

|
|
You don't seem to be on a cabinet. That postcode is fed direct from the exchange so cannot have FTTC .

I don't know how the phone lines work however I would have thought I would be to far away (1.6km) from exchange to be directly connected to it.
I phoned BT and they say June 30th but I felt they were just saying that so I would not go with Virgin.
Thanks for the replies.

I don't know how BT makes its decisions, or at least made them in the past. However, I suspect that the choice for a direct exchange line is not made on distance per se, but on a question of density out in that direction from the exchange.
I understand that the design of having cabinets dates back to post-WWII - so any decisions about what type of wiring layout dates back to decisions being made then.
I guess if you are on a sparsely-populated area, where most houses lie in a 1-dimensional line (long a road) from the exchange, then direct-exchange wiring happens. If there is a 2-dimensional spread of properties, then a cabinet gets involved, allowing the cross-connection of a number of smaller cable bundles.
That's speculation though...

I know of customers with lines that are >4Km long and are direct exchange lines with no cabs.

Thanks for this info, I could not find this in the spreadsheet. Am I correct in saying this means I am connected directly to the exchange?
If so does that mean I will never get faster broadband?
I have just bought this house in a worn down state and can't actually find any incoming bt line. Looked under floors and in the loft. Previous owner had Virgin I think. BT have told me there is a line in the house somewhere and are sending an engineer out next week, what happens if they don't find the incoming bt line?

Yes. That's what I said earlier but you seemed to doubt it . It is from the original csvs that included the exchange-only data, which the multi-page fusion PCP document created from them does not. If so does that mean I will never get faster broadband? Many people here think you may in time get FTTP, but I don't know an what basis they say that. It may just be something that has been repeated so often it becomes accepted. I have just bought this house in a worn down state and can't actually find any incoming bt line. Looked under floors and in the loft. Previous owner had Virgin I think. BT have told me there is a line in the house somewhere and are sending an engineer out next week, what happens if they don't find the incoming bt line? I'd lay odds they will find it.

The FTTP on demand offers one possibility, i.e. back wire from a cabinet further down the road, or will cover EOL.

Trying to understand the spreadsheet does anyone know:
In the Phase column what PF means?
The uplift column? (if you get 10Mb/s now and uplift is 2 is it saying you will probably get 20Mb/s with FTTC?)
Is the uplift column limited to 40Mb/s?
TIA

The uplift column? (if you get 10Mb/s now and uplift is 2 is it saying you will probably get 20Mb/s with FTTC?)
The short answer is yes. The longer answer is that it is the average uplift to the average speed in the postcode at present. If the postcode is small, then it probably applies to everyone. If it is large, then any inidividual result may be rather different to the average.
Is the uplift column limited to 40Mb/s?
It seems so.

Where does the Phase column have PF please? I assume you are talking about a specific row.

I think I saw one I was checking for someone the other day indicating the uplift in the December spreadsheets is based on 17a figures. The BT Wholesale and other checkers are of course 40MBps limited, and perhaps by now 10Mbps upload limited ... checks own ...
Wow! Wrong on both counts at the moment. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 51.7Mbps and upstream line speed of 13.2Mbps. Modem suggests a maximum of 59976/14603kbps.

I just did that check too... my current line is now predicting 55/18 (while the modem thinks it can attain 90/26). Perhaps I don't suffer much crosstalk yet.
But... my old line sems to have the cap properly in place. It went from 40/11 to 40/10 (and the modem used to have a max attainable rate of 65/15)

That looks to me as though you have something wrong with the importing. Those look like parts of post codes. We need a couple of full postcodes from that list, not the whole lot. Then we can check the correct data.
What did you use for the source?

100% sure I have imported correctly I have double checked the original CSV (downloaded from the Google link posted on the forum) by searching for ",8b (PF to Q1)," or ",7bf," or ",6bf,"?

Only curiosity it is probably (many hundreds of) typos in the source data I guess but definitely not a bad import.

Can't argue with that . I've checked the first two of those and yes that's what they say in Excel.
I thought there was a thread about the PF to Q1, but I have a feeling it got deleted. Certainly doesn't appear on a search. The suggestion was PF to Q1 meant Pulled/Put Forward to Quarter 1. As for the 7bf and 6bf, maybe something on the same lines, re 7b and 6b? Dunno.

Hmm, what does it mean if your post code isnt on the list?
I've checked the list and it has quite a lot of the post codes in this area but mine isnt on there. I know openreach van as been around here recently so I'm not sure.
The exchange isnt expected to 'go live' until 1st of June.

If you are looking at the multi-page fusion document that doesn't include Exchange-only. Post or PM the postcode.

any chance you could check the following postcode please
BD15 0FD (it's a new build)

Nothing on that postcode on the December 2011 information., as its a new build it was likely missed when the BT planners came round to your area.
One of the Isp's with the April 2012 data may be able to give more information.
