DSLAM marking on the pavement

[link to this post]

Hi all, I'm new here.

Just noticed up the road that a telephone cabinet has dslam written in yellow next to it.

Our exchange (LCACC) is due to be enable on the 1st June 2012, really looking forward to it as I can't really put up with 1.4 meg down (on a good day) anymore frown

My question is how long before the new bigger cabinet is put in?

Thanks smile

my FTTC cab was installed about 6 months ago, still no sign of any further action. Ive been checking the online roadworks search at my local council, you can see now BT are busy digging up the roads everywhere to unblock collapsed ducts etc.

I find local roadworks is a good source of info, helped me spot when the cab was actually due.

At least the cab is a start!

Update: Checked the local roadworks pages for Lancashire this morning, sure enough the page is now littered full of NGA works!

Full Page Here smile

I have narrowed down possible cabinets supplying my house to 2, and they are both being installed over the next two months as shown below laugh

Thoughts? Oh and what is poly duct?

Once the tie cable, power, spine cable and fibre are in and the headend ready you may actually be able to order something before the year is out smile

That's good news.

Openreach quote the turn around time as 5 months, but obviously problems can arise.

Mine has been installed for about 6 months now but it's not gone live.

Hopefully by the end of the year you will be good to go

I really hope it doesn't take that long, I've been planning a 48 hour gaming livestream with my mates for charity. Was planning for it to happen in July frown

Can't believe they'd leave cabs ready and waiting when they need to get their investments for them back.

Putting the cab on the street is the easy bit, it only takes them a day if that.

The power supply, cabling etc take the time. Don't forget they have to unblock the ducts right back to the exchange.

I would say you have zero chance of July but at the end of the day it's just a waiting game.

It's in Openreach's interest to do it as quick as poss but there is a lot more to it than you may think

You will notice in the roadworks site in the future there will be at lot of jobs saying something like 'excavate road to repair 3 blocked ducts' etc. that's when they are preparing to pull the fibre in.

They don't open the exchange for orders until 10 cabs are ready according to the openreach website.

Ah well, i've seen large rolls of cable being put down manholes in the pavement on the main roads. Guess this is probably the cabling, but yes i'll wait.

Not like I have a choice tongue

You say that but SWMES is accepting orders and only numbers connected to SWMESP10 seem to be OK, every other number states "July 2012".

Now i'm really confused haha

Yeah the ISP line checkers for me have never shown a provisioning date, and they still don't. Not sure why they do for some people and not others.

The isp's surely can only base their checkers on Openreach information and there is room for error on the isp's part.

The 'superfast when and where' website seems to be the most up to date information. Along with the
BT Wholesale line checker

It's BB5 5XP.

I know the spreadsheet says its cabinet 53, but when the openreach engineer came round to diagnose/repair a previous fault, he said it took him a while to test it as it was on cabinet 52 and his records said it was on cab 53.

I was slightly hungover at the time so I may have misheard him.

Round my way the biggest delay seems to be getting the power in, currently it can take up to 4 months which is probably why the date skipped back another 3 months.

Update: The exchange nearest me for FTTC rollout (Clitheroe) started accepting orders on Monday the 1st. A whole 3 days after the forecasted RFS date. Would assume this means we're next and our local openreach engineers are meeting their deadlines smile

I wouldn't worry about it not showing on the checker, I've been monitoring 3 local exchanges and none of them showed on the checker until they went live. Cabinets have been going in since February.

Where as my cabinet at work on a different exchange has shown an estimated speed for ages, but still no cabinet.

Another update...

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

All the roadworks seem to have been completed!

But I type my phone number into the checker, I get nothing about fibre. Then I type in my postcode and i'm given these details.

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed between 46.3 to 49.9 Mbps and upstream line speed between 8 to 10.9 Mbps.

I tried being more specific with my post code and house number but then nothing about fibre pops up.

What seems to be up here haha

Are you able to try using the number checker with a close neighbours number ?

Some weirdness happens with these checkers. Been installing at a house, and the next door neighbour comes out and says that for their line, 'computer says no'.

ADSL24 a poster on these boards might take a look, they have access to systems not open to the general public.

Received an email from Openreach

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

Emailed openreach, got a reply smile

In reference to :
Dear Mr Newbery

Thank you for contacting Openreach about fibre broadband.
Your number is connected to Accrington cab LC/ACC 53.
The build for this cab is complete and is being commissioned. Its expected date to go live is the end of September.
However, you may find that it is ready to accept orders in the next week or so.
The expected down load will be around 40Mb with an upload speed of 8Mb, this will be of sufficient bandwidth for your needs.
To ensure you get the best speed, ensure that the modem and home hub, when installed are at the main telephony socket.

Anyone want to break this down for me? Commisioned? Does that mean the wiring is all in place and is just waiting for someone to flick the switch?

This is brilliant! Now it means I can use my home connection for a 24 hour charity gaming livestream we're doing for the Lymphoma Association rather than having to rent a wee tower for temporary wireless broadband!

Cannot wait to get an order in smile
