Sky fibre will not need TV

[link to this post]

I think I'm not the only one here thinking that Sky fibre would require Sky TV. It appears from this page that it won't.

£20 without TV, £7.50 with TV (TV from £20).

"Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre will cost £20 a month for new and existing customers taking Sky Talk calls and Line Rental."

" Sky Talk calls packages £0-5 a month. Sky Line Rental £12.25 a month."

looks pretty clear, or is misleading wink

Very annoying that you have to move your line rental and calls to Sky to get their fibre broadband frown

They've moved away recently from requiring the TV as they realised it was limiting their market.

So if I read that right, it's £20 a month on top of everything else for Fibre if you don't have TV?

If so, that's very expensive compared to the likes of BT and TT.

especially as Sky is only offering the 40/2 product currently, doesn't look that great a deal at all.

That's why I posted. The common belief is/was that TV would be needed.

It isn't misleading, as the £7.50 is the price with TV.

Like BT and TalkTalk you mean? Their only big competitors. And no change from their LLU policy.

I presumed the £7.50 is for standard 'Broadband Unlimited' (as it states) and not 'Broadband Unlimited Fibre'

It seems both are being advertised on the same page going by the link at the top of this thread?

as the £7.50 is the price with TV
- not convinced. The fibre pricing text doesn't differentiate on the basis of TV. I think the £7.50 is the TV customer's price for standard broadband, which costs non-TV customers £10/month. http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/#join

My "misleading" comment referred to the nice clear wording and it would only be misleading if it isn't true in practice.

How is it expensive exactly talk talk is £38.30 for phone unlimited broadband + fibre, Sky is £32.25 for the same product 40/2 yea you've got to have tv as well but most people who have broadband and phone with sky also have TV anyway i know that's not all but most its still a hel of a lot cheaper than most of the resellers out there for truly unlimited un-shaped broadband.

Also the £7.50 a month is 100% for their ADSL it states unlimited broadband from £7.50 when taking a sky TV package starting at £20 a month (entertainment package)

You 100% need tv to get fibre at the moment that's why ive had to switch broadband providers because i no longer wanted the TV and they told me 100% i was not aloud the fibre without it, I was going to keep phone and broadband with them ready for the cabinet been activated but after been told this I ended up going with little big one on the DRN.

The small print on the page looks rather detailed to be missing something so important.

Well you can simply ring them up and they will tell you other wise you dont need TV for there ADSL any more but fibre you do as i said its the reason i had to leave sky broadband because they wouldn't allow me to upgrade to fibre (when available)unless i kept my TV which i didn't want to do

I don't ring idiots in call centres, for that very reason.

You'll be able to report fibre.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/broadband-options/sky-fibre-broadband/ to the ASA if it isn't available to non-TV customers as it says "Sky Broadband Unlimited Fibre will cost £20 a month for new and existing customers taking Sky Talk calls and Line Rental."

The fibre service will carry a £50 activation fee (this covers the Openreach engineer visit) and will only be available if you have Sky TV.

Its even reported on here it will require TV

Is the ASA the right body to complain to? I didn't think they covered providers own websites, just adverts.

Re: CONFIRMED NEED TV

[re: Kr1s69] [link to this post]

they do now include own web sites. I wrote :-

"The advertising material does not make it clear that the Fibre Broadband service is only available to consumers taking a Sky TV service.

It does state that Sky telephone line rental and a calls package are required, but says nothing about TV. The FAQs include "Who can get it " and "Do I need a phone line" but do not include "Do I need to be a Sky TV subscriber"

From Sky corporate media (screenshot skyfibre3.png) I beleive the product is not available without TV and other consumers have been told this by Sky.

A further confusing factor is that on the same web page in the pink shaded area is I believe an advert for their Standard (not fibre) Broadband Unlimited stating that this is £7.50/month " When you take a Sky TV package (from £20 a month) " which could be taken as meaning the Fibre Broadband is £7.50 with a TV package rather than the main price of "£20 a month for new and existing customers taking Sky Talk calls and Line Rental.".

To consumers the phrase "new customer" includes someone without Sky TV and there is no mention of Sky TV as a pre-requisite."

so we'll see what they say.

Have asked

[re: yarwell] [link to this post]

Seems original press release has been surplanted by what is on fibre.sky.com

You can get the Fibre for £20 if you take the telephone line, no need for TV.
If you have TV the price remains the same. No discount with the fibre service.

proof will be when the first orders are placed I guess.

Asked the pre-sales people via the chat facility and they said TV is not required (if you have faith in anything they say).
Also said that more information would be available on the 4th April

We also called them (after my recent success with getting FTTC showing) and they also say no need for TV as part of it. Will be sure to update when we place the order on the first day, since we're already with Sky for line rental and ADSL (LLU).

Hopefully we don't need TV, would make it less attractive. Prefer Sky for their service, you'd have to pay me to go back to TalkTalk!

As long as Sky come up with something better than 40/2 (preferably an 80/20 option) in the next 3 months or so I'll probably stick with them.

I've seen Sky say "new and existing customers" before. When querying further, it transpired they actually meant "new and existing TV customers", because they are so ingrained about being a TV company they forgot to specify the TV bit.

Will be interesting to see if that's the case again here.
