Fibre Stats

Anyone else here find it ridiculous that the openreach modem is so locked down that even basic stats such as the SNR are unavailable without a firmware hack?

Rant over but I needed a little vent.

What's even more rediculous is when you call BT Technical Support (if you're a BT Retail customer that is) they don't have access from their end, either!

Just unlock it, it takes 2 minutes and does not affect anything.

Those of us who lived through 2000 and 2001 had the same.

Some people even had a 3 box solution, and the modem lead was hard wired into the wall socket.

My modem lead is *still* hardwired to the socket - I did it myself to stop people unplugging it

& once it's unlocked, you can graph the stats:-

Call the Chinese government. You can bet your life they're able to remotely access practically every Huawei device in the entire World

They don't need to go for the modem, as they can get the info from the DSLAM.

It's a shame that can't be performed by those of us with ECI kit in the cabinet.

It no doubt breaches the Ts & Cs of use of the FTTC service as the modem still belongs to BT Openreach.

OTOH, is it legal to intentionally hide the stats from users?
Just imagine what it would be like if car manufacturers hid data such as speed, oil pressure, water temperature etc...................

100% reliable, providing the instructions have been followed exactly.

Unlocking the modem does not change anything at all.all the settings are the same as what it shipped with, with the added benefit of being able to view the router status page. What's wrong with that

Except it's better if the modem is connected to the phone line.

Is there a training period for BT infinity 2 connections?

I'd like to get the stats, as I have no clue on how the line is performing.

The actual "training period" is by the Openreach DLM on the DSLAM in the cabinet, up to the end of the second day of connection.

BT Wholesale still maintain their silly 10-day period in order to set the MSR and FTR for the line. Neither of which matters two hoots so far as I can tell, except it saves having to alter the relevant bit of code in their DLM to cater for fibre.

so if it was up and running thursday am (engineer left just before 9am with it up and running) It'd be ok to work on the modem?

Head says yes, heart says no.

More realistically, the chances of you personally causing a problem by messing up are remote, but exist. I'd leave it till next Monday.
