Since January 2012 our exchange has had a go live date of June 12. The leaked BT spreadsheet of Dec 11 showed our Cab (25) as being predicted to be 100% covered.
The current Openreach website suggests Westhoughton is now live but the map on the same web page is showing as Coming Soon. Our ISP Plusnet confirms we can't currently get FTTC and I drive past our Cab twice a day and there's no sign of any work.
I don't know of anyone in Westhoughton who has odered FTTC. Emailed [email protected] last night and got a reply which suggested our Cab wasn't in current rollout plans then got another email which suggested end of June 12.
Anyone in Westhoughton on here ordered FTTC ? I think end of June 12 is wrong and I expect the date to be knocked back soon.
Hi, apparently i am on the same cabinet 25 as you down in daisy hill, near eatock way, also waiting for BT infinity, I havent seen any FTTC installed as of yet, wondering when we will start to see them appearing, as can imagine its a fair amount of work to be ready for service by the end of June, they must be going in very soon, well we can hope as that cab provides pretty rubbish broadband speeds haha

Rang BT as I am coming to the end of my contract in July. Apart from trying to get me to renew my contract the lady was not very forthcoming.

Is this Numpty999? I have spoken to a member of BT sales team, they claim they have no information about FTTC rollout plans, could be the reason she didn't seem so forthcoming, I had a look at the PCP to postcode spreadsheet again, it appears that the predicted uplift is high and also quite a few postcodes attached to this cabinet 25, i should think that cabinets with high uplift values would get priority when the work begins as these are the lines suffering the most at the moment, then again, I could be wrong but we can hope
Apparently need to speak to the specialist team, they gave me phone number:- 0800 525 775 and open till 8pm on Monday to Friday, they assured me that they have information on the FTTC dates, so maybe worth a call
Its Numpty999. Let me know how you go on if you call the number they gave you. Cheers

Was on my way to work this morning, and seen 2 non BT vans with a reel of fiber optic cable, up near chequerbent roundabout, so have a feeling that progress is taking place even though no FTTC are present yet. Good to see something happen though.
It can take several months for a cab to be comissioned.
The power companies seem to drag their feet over getting the power installed.

Was it the fibre optics themselves or the plastic tube that they are blown through? "Cable" being pushed / pulled through will be the plastic tube.
Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download
BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload,
Moved house, now BE Unlimited 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
FTTC Cab installation commenced 12th April - expect full 80 / 20 - bye bye BE, hello BT Infinity soon!
There was a black tube coming out of a grid and quite a large reel with what looked similar to cling film,'used as an example for its colour and appearance' but assumed it was fiber
I used the Dec 11 spreadsheet tonight and put at least one post code per cabinet into the bt.com Infinity checker. Not one cabinet came back as having Infinity available across Westhoughton. I've just emailed the [email protected] address with that tail and just asked for an honest estimate when Westhoughton will start to have cabinets enabled.
You wasted your time as http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ is saying June 2012 for West Houghton
The author of the above post is a thinkbroadband staff member. It may not constitute an official statement on behalf of thinkbroadband.
Yes but the spreadsheets and pdfs on the web page below say Westhoughton is available now and not Coming Soon or Future Exchange. My first email to [email protected] was to say if the June 2012 date is right, which hopefully it is, then the other information on the web page is in contradiction.
Keep us up to date, would be interesting to know the outcome
Hi numpty, just phoned BT on the specialist number I mentioned the other day, the guy confirmed that work was being done on our exchange, the bad news is the timescale, he said 3 months away
Andrew
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ is actually saying on the accepting orders sheet.
WESTHOUGHTON LCWES FTTC/P Now Bolton District (B)
so something should be available on some of the cabs
The [email protected] team emailed me the following yesterday:-
"Ive had an update from our Infinity team. Theyve said theyre sorry but the work for the Westhoughton exchange is currently in delay. Theyve told me they expect the work to start in about 3-4 weeks. With an estimated completion date of end August12.
Ive asked them to confirm if the cabinet which provides your service will be enabled for Infinity. Ill contact you again on Tuesday once Ive received a response."
Had a reply today saying cabinet 25 will be enabled but no time frame quoted in reply from BT.
Thanks for keeping us updated, good to know that our cab will be upgraded at some point in the future, although disappointing that they cannot state an approximate date, I would just opt for Virgin Media personally, but haven't got that in the area either which is a bit rubbish, although I did send a request to [email protected] as they did install virgin media to The Pungle about 6 months ago, so maybe worth sending a request in, the more people in the area that do this, the more likely we are to get anywhere.
This website used to say RFS 30th June 2012, now changed to available in some areas
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/LCWES
I tried the cableupmystreet about 12 months ago and they said they only had a budget of £300 per property to install with some assumed level of take up thereafter.
VM a complete waste of time if you ask me.
I am also keeping an eye on infinity in our area, does anyone know which is the nearest box to the daisy hill area ( hartford road ) cheers
I was on my way to work this morning, and how I said i seen a white van a week or so back installing fiber optics near Chequerbent roundabout, well this morning I saw a huge reel of fiber optic on Bolton Road with a sign up saying Fujitsu in partnership with Virgin Media, then with a little digging online found this page
http://www.fiberopticmania.com/2011/04/fujitsu-virgi...
Looks like Virgin are expanding coverage via the new Fujitsu network over BT poles and ducts, and have seen them in Westhoughton
Just had a look on the spreadsheet for you, Hartford Road is on Cabinet 26

The news post is old news, the only work where fujitsu have delpyed their own network on BT poles is in a small trial in Greasby.
What is more likely is that the fibre being put in by fujitsu is for VM upgrade to their network.

see date has now gone back to Sept 12. i will believe it when i see my own personal fttc install.
September is just the next 3 month holding date from June, many exchanges and cabs that where planned for June will either meet that date or slip over by a few weeks or more.
I am sure that the original date for this FTTC Install was December 2011, then it slipped to March, then June, now September, I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if it slipped just the once, but i've been waiting for the best part of 2 years haha, and so it to slip to September, starts making you wonder if its ever going to come..
Okay first one that spots any work near a cabinet let the other know. I know where Cabs 25, 26 and I think 31 are.
Cab 26 near the church? its spray painted DSLAM on the ground next to it.
Good lets hope Cab 25 at the bottom of Eatock Way gets some signs of progress soon
I had an email back from Ian at BT and he says that Daisyhill has no plans to recieve Infinity in the near future.
Now im confused as i seem to be on cab 26.
Anyone from the hartford road area know any different?
Saw Openreach truck with trailer and lots of "cable" on the A6 at the top of Park Road this morning
Well, 8 days till the end of June, and the ready for service date, not yet seen a single FTTC cabinet, no roadworks, no electrical installation work. I have a feeling that they are very far behind and going to be waiting quite some time yet
June is just a holding date the next holding date is the 30th September, deployment all depends on how much resources are available as teams move from cabinet to cabinet as fast as possible.
Openreach vans at the top of Parkway again this morning with their big drum of something.
Sorry that should have said Park Way. Also found a planning application on Bolton council website for a cabinet at the bottom of Church Road/Street near Italian eating place I think. I noticed an old BT cabinet there when passing the other day.
bt cable van at the top of hartford road yesterday too lol
Had a chat to an Openreach engineer today as I had a line fault. He reckoned fibre for Hoskers/France St area should be around October.
He said an extra box should appear next to the existing street cabinet when it's close to the go live date.
Found this site which is interesting but not sure how accurate.
false
It will use the December 2011 spreadsheet data, so its 8 months old now.
All the data lists is a deployment phase which can slip for many cabinets, only way of knowing is to check the bt wholesale checker for when the cabinet will go live- if it was planned.
I haven't seen any work being done as of yet, they must see that the new holding date as an opportunity to stop doing everything again, its getting a little ridiculous haha
The rollout moves at best speed, its likely that the teams are busy on other cabinets before they can get round to your cab and any delays causes cabinets to fall down the list, their are still many areas without FTTC even planned.
More Openreach trucks/vans with big reels of cable near the White Horse pub on the A6 and down Bolton Road
I think, realistically we should start seeing some work soon, if they actually intend on meeting the September holding date, as haven't seen a single cab installation yet, no roads dug for electrical installation or anything, I think if they started now it would be a push to complete for end of September.
FYI those are not cable reels, just empty pipes which they lay underground. Openreach then blow the fibre through once the pipe is in place
James as you will have the latest Openreach/BT deployment spreadsheet what does it say for Cab 25 and Cab 26 around the BL5 2RY post code ?
It still says both cabs are planned so you will get it No cabs have gone live yet in Westhoughton. You are on cab 25.
James

Hi everyone, I am one of cabinet 25 people, still no signs of any upgrades for BT upgrading the cabinets around Westhoughton, I decided to email Ian Livingston asking for an update on availability. He replied to me stating that the Westhoughton exchange was due for enablement, however cabinet 25 has no plans for infinity ....depressing news after such a wait.
BT Openreach van outside Daisy Hill station at 6:45am this morning laying the thin black pipe that the fibre is blown through. Slow signs of progress I guess.
top of hartford road today too, looks like its moving closer
Cab25
Isn't Hartford cab 26?
Sorry yes hartford Road is on Cab 26, my bad
Openreach laying again on Sunday working further down from Hartford towards cab 26 on Lower Leigh Road ?
can anyone tell me when my cabinet is due or it is not due for fibre BL18BW
Thanks for the updates, lets keep it up
I see latest BT press release says FTTP available soon for Westhoughton. I guess that means once FTTC infrastructure is in place one might be able to pay to have FTTP installed ...wonder how much that will cost ?
Where did you find this press release? I'd be interested in reading it
According to this site:- http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
We have been pushed back to December, no surprise there
Exchange Name: WESTHOUGHTON
Status: Coming Soon
Forecast date: December 2012
Its just part of the 3 month holding slots- if the exchange does not go live, it will move into the next holding slot.
Of what I can read it sounds like cabinet 26 is going to have FTTC. Does anybody have this information from BT also?
Can someone advise on when we are likely to get fibre at the Westhoughton Exchange?
I noticed the RFS date has been put back to December 2012
My postcode is BL5 3DH and i think i'm on cabinet P19, which is in phase 8a - what does that mean?
Many thanks
Simon
The phase number indicates when the exchange/cabinet was announced as being within the FTTx project.
Obviously cabinets announced in later phases also tend to be installed later, but it isn't necessarily so. When the announcements are made, some exchanges get planned within the next 3 months, while some are stuck a year away.
In the end it means that the phase number tells you very little about the actual delivery.
The DSL checker here tends to be reasonable about it's estimate. However, it suffers the usual problem that the quarterly holding dates (end March, June, September and December) regularly get pushed back.
You're likely to get more specific detail by emailing this address: [email protected]
Thank you for the quick response - much appreciated
If you look at Cab 25, its situated within a couple of meters of a main virgin media fibre optic cab, BT should consider striking a deal to share fibre infrastructure, it would help them tremendously lol
Saw another Openreach truck with black "cable" on it this morning ....wait for it, wait for it .....broken down on the M61 north bounad exit at the Reebox stadium junction ...........
Saw more Openreach trucks on Market Street late last night putting black cable conduit in and mid day Sat saw two vans with blokes opposite Grey Man pub doing what looked like duct unblocking ?
There were some Openreach vans at the top of Park Road on Friday and Saturday, with large rolls of plastic conduit.
Saw the guys rodding ducts again on the opposite side of the road on Saturday to where I saw them a week ago.
Looks like the date has been set back to march 2013 now guys
I see there are bases being laid all over the place ready for the new FTTC cabinets.
Lets hope the March date will be met
cabinets at top of wearish lane and on righthand side down towards daisyhill station. Seem to go in Fri/Sat
I have a question for anyone who wants to answer, I can see that the holding date is now set at March 2013, and the cabs are going in, does anybody now whether cabs are switched on when ready, or have to wait for all cabs then all switched on at the same time? and could this happen before March 2013? what kind of speed could I expect being 690 Meters from it? Thanks
Simple answer is they will switch on cabinets as and when they become ready, could start with one cabinet or multiple cabinets.
Our first cabinets went live in May, cabinets are still going live now.
And yes cabinets could well go live before March, unfortunately it's just a waiting game, all depends on what problems they come across.
Thanks for the response, do you have any idea roughly how long it takes them to go live once installed?
No, it as I say above, it can be weeks or it can years - yes some peoples cabinet on here have been installed for over twelve months and are still not live.
Our cabinet was installed in February, they seem to install the cabinets first, then they put in the tie cables, power and fibre, but that could be in any order. There can be problems getting the fibre from the exchange - blocked ducts, the further from the exchange the greater the chance of blocked ducts, which have to be dug and replaced or cleared if possible, or there could be unexpected problems with getting power to the cabinet, there's so many variables.
One whole side of Margate, six cabs were held up because of block ducts recently, cabinets had been in for over six months, but I believe BT had to wait to dig up the road, one for the Olympic torch route, and then they had to wait to school half term, so not to cause to much traffic disruption, so as you can imagine there's a lot more than just running in a few cabinets. Those six cabinets all went live at the same time, so that one section of duct was holding them up.
Cabinet 26 has now been fitted outside the church, Daisy Hill
I have seen that cabs 25 and 28 also been upgraded, I wonder if installation is complete, eg power and fibre to them though, as tarmac has dug and filled so I would assume that power had been connected when they did this?
not always, often they will dig them up multiple times.
My lad was talking to an Openreach engineering connecting the fibre at what we think is Cabinet 22 (near France Street ?) yesterday. Engineer said barring major issues with power and blocked ducts it should be 4 to 6 weeks before we can start ordering on all the cabinets around Daisy Hill.
Engineer was a bit hacked off as where he lives FTTC has been done but not his cabinet and even though he'd offered to do his bit for free his cabinet was not on the current plan for deployment ....how frustrating must that be.
Let's hope he was right on the 4 to 6 weeks.
2 new cabinets have appeared on my dog walking route on entrances to the Metal Box Estate in Westhoughton. On Chew Moore lane, and Manchester Road A6. Both boxes much bigger than the original small ones and they have left the old ones there, is that normal?
http://www.robertos.me.uk/html/bt_furniture_2.html
Do they look like the above, if so they are FTTC cabs which are installed next to the existing pcp and this is normal.
looked like they where running the fibre through this morning in Daisy Hill and also at the top near the traffic lights.
Ohh interesting, I wonder if cabs have individual fibres to the exchange, or whether they daisy chain them all?
Openreach guys connecting fibre up in cabinet just up from Hindley Road post office
The FTTC cab makes use of individual fibres back to the head-end in the parent exchange - so are point-to-point fibre.
However, those fibres are being laid as part of high-fibre-count bundles via aggregation nodes (splicing points), and appear to run in chains - usually referred to as the fibre spine.
Those bundles, as announced recently by BT, will provide the basis for the FTTP-on-demand product line. The same kind of fibre is used, but this time it is set up as a passive GPON network, using shared fibre connections, and more splicing/splitting done further out in the network.
Openreach guys connecting fibre at Daisy Hill church today. Plus I got a reply from the nga email address at Openreach to say barring any major issues our cabinet 25 shoild be ready by end of January
I have just ordered on BT's website. Don't know 100% what cabinet I'm in, but I'm next to Daisy Hill train station. So Daisy Hill looks like is live Install in 14 days!

Forgot the speed:
We estimate your maximum download connection speed will be 58.8 Mbps
We estimate your maximum upload connection speed will be 20 Mbps*
I checked BT checker yesterday and it gave holding response for FTTC but changed to available this morning so have ordered Plusnet Unlimited for tentative install in a weeks time. Lets see if they can give me an install that quickly. I was expecting 2 or 3 weeks. Suggested speed is 56mbps down and 18mbps up and I think we are on cab 25 at bottom of Eatock Way
Ordered mine from BT with the £50 sainsburys voucher thing. My install date is 18th Jan on Hartford road.
Estimated speeds seem abit slow but its alot better than the 4Mb i get now
Your download speed should be: 21.8Mb
Your upload speed should be: 5.4Mb
Will keep you updated

Just had FTTC installed this morning. BT man showed us his test kit. BT Line Checker predicted 56/18 before install, BT mans kit 87/30 and latest speedtest since he's gone is 77/16.
Happy bunnies here.
Hi Numpty, great outcome, could you post your before and after line stats? and what speed you synced before the upgrade? I am connected to cab 25, same as you, would be interested to know. Thanks
I seem to recall down stream attenuation was 58db with a rough line distance estimate from exchange of 3300metres. From FTTC cab 25 using Google Earth I think our line path is probably about 400metres.
On ADSL2+ we got about 3mbps down and 0.7mbps up. Before FTTC was installed the BT checker suggested we might get 56mpbs down/16mbps up.
We looked at the BT mans test kit when he just finished the automated check at our master socket and it showed 87mpbs down/30 mbps up. A good line as he said.
Then we fired up the BT modem and connected to our Billion 7800n router and with a wired link directly into the router got a speedtest of 72mbps down and 16 mbps up.
My lad is going to try to unlock the BT modem to get our FTTC line stats.
Here is ours, not super flying speed but its alot better than before

Has anyone on the Hoskers (like us) had any success with BT Infinity yet? I see someone on Hartford road has gone live which is only a stones throw away, yet yesterday, I rung BT to get an idea on timescale, I was told March 2014 (((((
Even though on the map, it says Accepting Orders. Odd!
Thats just the exchange, your pcp if connected to one needs to have a FTTC twin installed before you can place a order.
Use the below checker with a BT number or use the address checker if you have a Sky/TT number but do not use the Postcode checker as its less accurate and can cover many cabinets.
The checker will tell you which cabinet you are on and will update to when you can order FTTC.
https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
Well, March 2014 came and went. Still no Fibre even though BT have slapped a sticker on the box saying superfast broadband is live and ready!
Laughable seeing as the streets around us have it installed.
The stickers have no relation to the service being live, only the BT wholesale adsl checker will tell you if the service is live.-use address for TT or Sky phone number.
I'm on Cabinet 32, which isn't going to get FTTC. I'm just inside Blackrod, near the Mercure Hotel.
Anyone know where Cabinet 32 is?
Forever stuck on 4Mbit down and not much up either it seems
This is driving me insane. Well, not quite, but it is irritating.
So upon checking the BT wholesale site back in March 2014, when it said it's due to be live 31st March 2014, then come April, the date had been put back to 30th Sept 2014. I check today (30th September) and the fibre option has flaming disappeared altogether
So I ring BT who have now said it should be live by September 2015 ((((((
Rubbish!
The annoying thing is there are tonnes of streets around us, behind us, one street away, over the road etc etc which all have it grrrrr
Does anyone have any email addresses for anyone at openreach or BT etc who can provide any further details other than the call centre who just don't have any information?
Cheers!

Yeah I realised where it was some time ago. When I posted, PCP 32 was not viable, then it got earmarked for BDUK funding (when fttc-check site was up and running).
It looks like some power works are due to be started at the end of this week, and some telephone ducts along the A6 are being cleared too.. (info from roadworks.org). At least something appears to be happening sooner than later.. !
Last I read on the very scarce information, it was due to go live by June 2015.. :/
We'll see eh?
