I asked about NDBRO 24 and got similar response to previous posts:
You are indeed connected to cab ND/BRO 24.
We have experienced problems with the underground duct network in this locality. This has been in the form of blockages caused by earth movement which has collapsed the ductwork.
This has delayed the deployment of fibre optic cable from the exchange to the cabinet. This means that we are expecting to see your cab go 'live' around the end of September. However, if we encounter further problems, this date may slip.

Looking on roadworks.org I can see some planned BT roadworks scheduled to finish on the 30th August. Hopefully NDBRO 24 will go live soon after that.

Using various sources of information, it appears that you are on cabinet NDBRO 23, which hasn't gone live yet. It is situated in Westover Road between the junctions with Northdown Road and Westover Gardens. We can't at present tell when it should go live but BT Openreach are due to be giving us more info on their web site soon.

Looking forward to a speed increase!

Can't tell you much apart from whats on the map, there are two other cabinets along Manston Rd (22 & 48) and neither of them are live yet.

Openreach are supposed to be launching a cabinet checker on their website this week, so hopefully that will show what the hold up is, but I expect it's blocked ducts.

Details from map.

FTTC cabinet was installed when checked 2-04-2012, power was scheduled for connection 04 May 2012 - 09 May 2012

PS. Yes you are on NDRAM 8

BT engineers were blowing the fibre for NDBRO 1 this morning. They said they couldn't guarantee success as there was a possibility that some of the pipework could be blocked by roots or debris and they were pushing down at least 1km of cable length. However if all went well, the cabinet would be ready to go live almost immediately. Fingers crossed they encountered no problems...

This thread is a great find, thank you to the OP for putting the map together.

Would someone be kind enough to check CT117EQ for me (st Andrews road)

On the map it's nearest to NDRAM31 but quite close to NDRAM4 too.

I'm guessing I'm connected to NDRAM31 and there is a delay on that cabinet? Is there anyone I. Can email to find out? I'd really like to get ordered ASAP

Thanks again

That one was a bit odd anyway - it's in the middle of a lot of cabinets that are already live, so there had to be a problem.

I think it was probably the owner of the neighbouring house. The Virginia Creeper was spreading wildly so they probably had to do it. We have/had the same problem. I think I've killed it now! Time will tell.

Anyway, NDTHA 31 is still languishing. At least the roadworks.org website shows that they seem to be clearing a few ducts, hopefully on the way to our cabinet. Interestingly it also shows that they are finally about to install the FTTC cabinet for NDTHA 17. It also shows that they are to install one in Fort Road, exactly where the FTTC cabinet for NDTHA 40 recently went live! They'll get a shock when they get there....

Hi there,

Thanks for all your work on this! Great updates. Really informative map too! My Post Code is CT9 1TJ - On the map I'm between NDTHA 26 & NDTHA 27. Any idea which one I'm on? Are there any updates? A few weeks ago there were works at the end of my road - these finished a couple weeks ago, so I couldn't see them on the Road Works Map. frown

85% of those in CT9 1TJ are on NDTHA 26 with the remainder on NDTHA 27. Unless you find a kindly BT engineer I have a feeling you won't know to which PCP you are connected until one but not the other goes live .. and if both go live at the same time you still won't know unless an engineer tells you.
Edit: Typo corrected.

NDTHA 26 is giving speed estimates, NDTHA 27 is not

So if he puts his telephone number in this checker or if on LLU (Sky/TaklTalk etc) uses his house number/name/flat in the address checker he should be able to find out which cabinet he is on.

For flat 1 you would enter Flat 1 as the building name and enter the postcode, no need to enter anything else, or you can enter just the house number, either way it will give you a list of propeties to choose from.

I'm not sure that is entirely accurate. Only certain addresses on NDTHA 26 are giving speed estimates. He may be lucky, of course, if his is one of them.

NDBRO 31 enablement delayed until 19/11/2012 according to openreach enquiries.

They are experiencing unexpected issues and delays involving traffic management and duct blockages. New date is provisional and reliant on them coming across no more problems.

NDTHA 14 has gone live today! That still leaves 13 cabinets to go live in Margate, although 2 haven't been installed yet - NDTHA 17 may be being installed currently although there was no evidence when I looked a few days ago.

Hi,

Does anyone have an update on NDBRO1? Openreach engineers were blowing fibre down the ducts for this cabinet over 3 weeks ago. Today (30th Sept) was the deadline that BT had set for enablement. The postcode check function at www.dslchecker.bt.com was previously giving FTTC speed estimates for this cabinet, but these have now disappeared. I assume Openreach have encountered a problem frown

That checker is known to have the cab disappear before going live, just give it a few days and it should start accepting orders, your cabinet is installed so it will go live eventually.

The 30th of September is one of 4 end quater holding dates that Openreach estimate work to be completed, if the cabinet is not ready it will move into the next quater and then go live- alot of cabinets will either go live before the end quater or the first few weeks in the next quater.

Once a exchange has gone live the first few cabinets are live and more follow over the weeks/months it takes for Openreach to complete the commercial rollout in the area.

You haven't got a clue as to what your talking about, so why don't you do us all a favour and stop, I'm sure we are all getting fed up of your pointless rants - with a bit of luck your broadband will fail completely wink

The cabinet is installed, just waiting to be connected/go live like many others round here, they are getting done slowly, but surely.

Dear Mr XXXX,

Thank you for contacting Openreach about fibre Broadband.

We are experiencing problems installing the main fibre optic spine that feeds not only your cabinet, but three others.
The underground ductwork is blocked around the area of Marine Gardens and we need to excavate to clear the blockage. However, the highways authority have insisted that we would have to wait until the end of the Olympics before we commence, they have also insisted that the work is done on a night time, which also causes delays.

If all goes to plan, we would expect your cab to go live around the end of November.

NDTHA 21
NDTHA 45
NDTHA 37
NDTHA 31
NDTHA 13
NDTHA 12
NDTHA 8
NDTHA 38

as posted this is only some of them or all the cabinets involved and is true or not plus some roadworks have gone up for the end of the Oct month for
Roadworks job numbers
BC005WP00100500076346603
BC005WP00100500076346602
for 28th of Oct to 1st Nov for traffic control and Install 67m of 1 way poly duct in Footway,Install 8m of 1 way poly duct in Carriageway

So Time will tell if what is going to happen or not happen

That does sound correct, RJH321 enquired about his cabinet a few weeks back (in this thread) and that was similar, his is NDTHA31. It would also tie in with none of the cabinets over that side being live yet.

The only thing that does sound odd is they say 3 others, there's 5 or 6 others that could come off that one spine, but as above it does sound entirely plausible.

If that email is only from a few days ago then some of the information is very old (at least to me).

A number of roads around Kent were protected from planned works during the Olympics. This included busy and/or strategic roads in certain areas. This ended after the main Olympics ended.

Marine Gardens is a traffic sensitive street between the hours of 07:00 to 19:00 from Monday to Saturday. Putting up temporary lights at the junction with Belgrave Road is very likely to cause congestion even if manually controlled during the entire day. Discussions between works promoters (BT, SGN, SWS etc.) and the Highway authority may lead to specific permit conditions of night or extended hours working.

Anyway, the works are currently permitted to commence from 28th October pending any changes by Openreach or other unforeseen issues elsewhere (emergency gas escape closures like in Albion Street, Broadstairs) in the immediate area.

Fingers crossed that the works are problem free. I'd rather not have to deal with any complaints frown.

I understand the need for a freeze around the Olympics - in fact, I'm told BT had one too.

But I'm surprised that there was one on the roads *this* far out. And if it was merited for the Olympics, why not the Paralympics too?

I would imagine that all local highway authorities in London, and the neighbouring counties, would have provided information to all works promoters of where planned works would be prohibited during the Olympics. At the same time I would have thought that works promoters were given the opportunity to bring forward works in other non-prohibited areas (non-traffic sensitive streets or residential roads etc.) to enable works to continue.

From a local perspective, I can't really give a full explanation why certain roads were included (to be quite honest I can't even remember if Marine Gardens was on the list).

An example of two roads that I know were listed were the B2011 Folkestone Road and A256 York Street in Dover as these roads lead to/from both the Port of Dover and the Dover Priory train station - both strategic points of transportation.

Marine Gardens leads to Margate train station and is close to the busy bus drop off/collection point at Cecil Square.

As for why the same treatment wasn't in place during the Paralympics, I don't personally know.

It was most likely due to the Olympic torch route, which I'm sure passed along Margate seafront, really the prohibition could have been lifted after this but probably used the same powers/order as everything else and so was in place for the entire Olympics.

I remember seeing resurfacing work scheduled for Hawley Street, which I'm sure stated repair of road surface for Olympic torch route, so this would mean the torch went down Marine Gardens to the sea front.

The torch did pass along Marine Gardens as prior to that it went down the High Street before heading along the A28 up to Westgate-On-Sea.

I'm not sure how much I can say but what was put in place to prevent issues during both the torch run and the Olympics went quite well.

There were plenty of repair works carried out, some already planned and others put in, prior to the torch run. I think Hawley Street was already planned for resurfacing before the torch route anyway.

Roadworks.org has two pieces of work scheduled for 15th to the 17th October for the junction of Thanet Road/Avenue Road and outside Broadgate Hall on Dumpton Park drive. This involves laying poly duct between the telephone cab and the new one for fibre. So I am guessing that that was the problem holding up the deploying of NDRAM P17.

Hopefully it will become live before the end of the month !

Well, Roadworks.org shows the power being connected between 9 - 11 October, so I would suggest keeping an eye on the cabinet next week and see if anything happens.

Hopefully once thats all connected and checked it will go live.

{NDBRO}{P21} CT103ED 90% Remainder of lines fed from NDBRO 1
{NDBRO}{P21} CT93TS 97% Remainder of lines fed from NDTHA P20
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103RZ 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103RY 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103RX 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103EW 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103PJ 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103JR 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103SF 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103SE 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103SA 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103SB 100%
{NDBRO}{P21} CT103SD 100%

Percentage refers to the % of lines in that postcode supplied by that cabinet.

PS. Hope your nearer the top of the road, the bottoms around 1100 meters from the cabinet, but should still be 20 - 30 times better than what you have

For doing quick checks like that, I usually take all the postcodes for a cabinet, and feed them into batchgeo.com. It gives a quick map of the area fed by a cabinet, and a feel for where it is located.

I see your main map is on Google itself. How do you get the mapping data on there?

Hi Wwwombat, I've lost count of how many batchgeo maps I've created looking for various cabinets, I usually also include the exchange as the cabinet will usually be located towards the exchange side of the area.

As for the google map it's just a case of creating a new map from google maps webpage and then adding the pushpins, one by one as we located the cabinets. You can also import a kmz file from google earth, and download a kmz file from google maps, which is useful as a backup.

You can also do the same with batch geo , scroll to the bottom of the page and you can download a kmz google earth file, which means you can zoom in far more in google earth.

I've worked out lots of tricks for locating cabinets smile

Not a problem happy to help where I can, either PM me or start a new thread (so not to derail this one) and I'll give you some pointers, and tips and tricks.

Also, most important don't leave your map open so anyone can edit it , the Hereford map got vandalised.

I can't tell how long it will be before FTTC is available. What I can tell you is that you are on NDBRO 1, and that has it's FTTC fibre twin cabinet installed.

I can also tell you that several weeks ago, may be more someone posted some info on here that Open Reach were having trouble getting the fibre optic cable from the exchange to the cabinet due to blocked ducts, I think someone more recently also saw Open Reach later installing the fibre, so this may have been installed now.

Last week roadworks were carried out to connect power to the cabinet, someone on the previous page confirms this.

So I don't think it will be much longer before it's live, then it will be a matter of placing your order and then waiting the 3 weeks for the install date, which seems to be about the average.

Samknows is going by is the exchange, which is accepting orders, but only for cabinets which are installed and live, so that Samknows isn't much use when checking for FTTC.

As to are you being impatient, no not really, I had 11 meg before upgrading, probably ten times what you have now, but I was just as eager. It will come, eventually.

Could this be another cabinet going in at NDRAM 37 already?

In reference to www.roadworks.org:
Works Start: 19 Oct End: 22 Oct

EXCAVATE TO LAY DUCT AND ERECT STREET CABINET. EXCAVATE TO LAY TELEMETRY DUCT. LAY CONCRETE PLINTH. STAND CAB. EXCAVATE LV JOINT HOLE WITH TRACK WORK. UKPN ENGINEER TO CARRY OUT INSPECTION PRIOR TO JOINTING OF CABLE. UKPN JOINTING TEAM TO EXECUTE JOINTING WORKS. REINSTATE. CHECK AND CLEAR SITE.

Seems a bit odd take up would be that high right on top of the exchange, cabinet went live 31st July.

According to the wholesale checker the cabs still accepting orders.

I was hoping there was a way to actually know... 30 is closest as the crow flies however since the wires go round the road I think 10 and 25 are the nearest by road. I seem to remember when I had an OR person out when I had a line fault he mentioned going down Crow Hill to the box so I suspect 25 might be the one, but was hoping there might eb a way to get a definite answer.

There is, as MCM states your on one of the two cabinets below.

In reply to a post by MCM:
CT10 1HT
93% of the lines with this post code are on PCP 10
6% of the lines with this post code are on PCP 34

Now PCP 10 is accepting orders and has been since August, so if the BT Wholesale checker says you can't order FFTC, then you must be on PCP 34, which is not live yet.

on bt wholesale checker for ndram17 and my address

Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 31st December 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 79.3 Mbps and upstream line speed of 20 Mbps.

hopefully will actually go live before the end of december though

Thanks for the clarification, since I can now order fibre if I so decide I must be on cabinet 10 which is good as that is only 350 yards round the roads from here so I should get a good speed. It also explains why my ADSL2+ speed is 8690kbps at 6db as this cabinet is quite a long way from the exchange, much further than 34. Just a pity that my ISP on their website does not give a speed estimate for fibre from them.

Some roadworks scheduled to start tomorrow for NDBRO 4 by the looks of it. They would have needed to wait until half term as this is a very busy road.

In reference to www.roadworks.org:
Works Start: 29 Oct
End: 01 Nov
Logo
High impact, delays likely
Location: O/S 75 crossing c/w to o/s 54 CHURCH STREET BROADSTAIRS CT10 2TU
Description: Install 7m of 1 way poly duct in Carriageway,Install 91m of 1 way poly duct in Footway

Also the roadworks in Margate are still scheduled to start, which must be for the cabinets in the Westbrook area, again they must have waited for half term, with the reduced traffic.

just had an email from bt confirming they are upgrading the lines

though i am still at 17mbs so made no difference to me

heres quote from email

Weve upgraded your broadband line
Hello,
Good news
This is to let you know that we've now upgraded your line and you should now have an improved, more consistent broadband connection, and maybe a speed increase.
You can find out more at bt.com/networkupgrade
Remember your line needs time to settle down
For the next ten days, your broadband might slow down or even stop now and again. That's normal and it'll soon settle down. You can help it along by leaving your BT Home Hub on and using your broadband as much as you can for this time.
Equipment playing up?
If you have BT Vision and you get an on-screen error message (V04), please restart your BT Vision box by holding down the power button for about six seconds.
If other things connected to your phone or broadband line are playing up, you might need to restart them too.
If youve tried the above and still have problems, try our help pages or call us on 0800 111 4567.
Try our Broadband Accelerator
The BT Broadband Accelerator can help improve your broadband speed by up to 1.5Mb. It filters out electrical interference from your TVs, lights and other everyday equipment that could be slowing down your internet. As a BT broadband customer, you can order one free online all you pay is the £1.30 postage (one per household). Order yours or find out more at bt.com/accelerator
Is this about BT Infinity?
No, this upgrade is part of our ongoing network improvements. If we can offer you BT Infinity, our super fast fibre broadband service, well let you know in a separate email or letter. Or you can check availability at www.bt.com/infinity
Thanks for choosing BT,

not sure what the engineer meant by "never mind connected it"

but those are the exact words he used

i assumed he meant the fibre had to be connected to the cabinet once they got it there through the pipe they laid?

I'm not sure they are still scheduled, they weren't listed in my roadworks.org email this morning and I've not had chance to get on the PC to check, for some reason the website doesn't work on my tablet.

The work looks like it has started on the road up to Cecil Square. The pin on the map looks like it was in Belgrave road. But the dates have been extended to the 6th November.

Works are on-going at Marine Gardens junction of Belgrave Road - evening works 7pm to 11pm.

Unfortunately there was a problem during last nights works with a cellar. It's likely that the works will be there for a little longer than expected due to the unforeseen circumstances.

Looks like NDTHA 1 & NDTHA 17 are having their power connected between 2 to 6 November.

Not sure whats going on with NDRAM 10 in Ramsgate, scheduled for another cabinet install including base and ducting, but FTTC cabinet is already in but not yet live.

Can anyone let me know who i could contact to find out the likelihood of NDRAM52 being enabled for FTTC?

My workplace desperately needs faster broadband for business reasons, and we're currently stuck with an inadequate line.

Is there an email address I can email, or anything of a similar nature?

Thanks if anyone can help.

Haine Rd industrial estate is very unlikely to be upgraded any time soon, number of reasons really. Low amount of lines, possible low uptake and most of all BT might loose any leased lines to cheaper FTTC (this is only my speculation though).

You can contact nga.enquiries at openreach.co.uk

Best bet would be to contact Vfast, they are a local company and have a wireless transmitter on top of Staner Court so you should be good to go - let me know how you get on.

I can confirm that the FTTC cabinet for NDTHA 23 has been completely removed. I assume that it will be reinstalled at a later date in a more suitable position.

I can also confirm that road works are in progress in Marine Gardens, Margate, which hopefully will lead to the provision of a fibre service to my cabinet (NDTHA 31) and several others in west Margate.

Something must have changed as, for the first time, I am now getting a speed estimate for my phone number. smile

That's for areas with FTTP, I keep hoping they open up Broadstairs to the FTTP on demand trial, but that's not going to happen, and I expect when it launches as a product next year it will be too expensive to justify for most of us.

Hopefully only a week or two to wait now, at least that's what BT OR suggested in this post

Although I see the roadworks are still active at Marine Gardens/Belgrave Rd, are they still actually on-going. I wonder if BT OR has surveyed the rest of the ducting?

Don't think it'll be too long for NDBRO 20, I see that extra earth rods are scheduled to be installed 21 - 23 November, which means they must have carried out electrical checks.

Also NDRAM 31 & 41 are scheduled to have power connected 16 - 20 November

I have just walked down Marine Gardens and the hole is still there. It is covered in a sheet of plywood and looking rather neglected. There is a trench from this hole to a connection in Belgrave Road. The trench was filled in soon after it was dug (overnight?) although it looks like they ran out of topping tarmac at the Belgrave Road end. No evidence of any recent activity.

PS sorry for deleted pasts, I was having difficulty linking the speedtest!

Saw an engineer (telenet?) working on NDBRO1 (kingsgate) beginning of the week, and having been up to it I can confirm it is buzzing away. I'm guessing this means it has had the power connected?
However as it stands I cannot yet order it, through Sky at any rate.
Anyone have any idea how long after its up and running before I can place my order?

ok got some more news from what i last did in this post HERE

i caught hold of a BT Openreach chap at Westbrook on Hartsdown road on the bridge right hand side where the fish and chip shop used to be about 50 feet further up on bridge there was a guy with 2 man hole covers up had noticed he been there a couple of days and on third day pulled over and spoke to him he was using a fibre machine looked like a cut and slice machine and look like he was doing allot and I mean allot of fibre splicing together from a back bone and asked him about my box and he said he was doing it now and should be finished by today or tomorrow he was splicing the last couple of boxes in the area and was all going thro this manhole cover he was at and he said he will be able to order very very soon so I said maybe a couple of weeks or so for info to go thro all the BT databases that show FTTC is done and he said a lot sooner Should be a few days
So was looking forward last week to order FTTC and i keep checking and still no orders showing and still showing 31st of Dec still
So atm your guess is best bet and they cocked up big time for last few boxes so no news in a way to give out apart from chat with the bt openreach guy I talked to

Well my guess is as follows.

Dec 2011 scheduled cabinets not yet deployed:

NDRAM 1 - St.Lawrence
NDRAM 21 - Near the Viking ship
NDRAM 38 - Top of the steps near the old Kings Cinema, although was deffered out due to techinical reasons
NDTHA 8 - Nr Margate Station - delayed due to building work
NDTHA 23 - Removed due to position

Not scheduled Dec 2011

NDBRO 5 - Sailisbury Avenue, Open Reach told me March 2013
NDBRO 28 - Reading Street, Open Reach told me March 2013

NDBRO 21 - Botany Rd, we can but hope!

NDTHA 23 was supposed to have been placed further along Northdown Park Road http://goo.gl/maps/MDapH but somehow it ended up where it did on the junction.

It's highly likely that it will be coming back at some point but hopefully Openreach will make sure not to repeat what happened the first time round.

Exciting news! My cabinet (NDTHA 31) has gone live today. Needless to say, I have already booked my installation appointment (the first available) - very soon - November 30th.

Not only that, but 5 other cabinets have also gone live today:
NDTHA 12
NDTHA 13
NDTHA 21
NDTHA 37
NDTHA 45.

These are all in the same group as mine so would be expected to go live at the same time.

And I have ordered today for connection to NDTHA31 with install date of 30th Nov given to me by Plusnet.

40Meg promised; will certainly notice the difference from a rather unreliable ~2-3Meg!

Thanks to all for keeping the posts going, especially Ronski.

Well I have no problems with Plusnet been with them for 9 years, speeds seem good, don't get any slow downs either. Only throttling these days is on P2P between 20:00 to 22:00. 250GB allowance, and midnight to 8am is unlimited, and for only £20 a month I can't complain at all.

Other advantage is, for every person that you recommend, they'll pay you a commission every month they stay connected. Can't post my referral link it's against forum rules wink

Ronski,

Been with Plusnet for more than you have, I think! Again few if any problems, except for the time the overcooked their email server big time and lost everything. Luckily I was using POP3 so was OK. But there were regular service updates which seems to be a Plusnet forte.

Your revised list does not show NDTHA31, although the map shows it live.

Finally anyone know what is happening with NDTHA43? I think that is the cabinet we are connected to at work and desperately need an more reliable service.

NDTHA 43 supplies just an industrial estate, so I doubt that will be upgraded any time soon, you might be better off trying http://www.vfast.co.uk/business/ not sure if they cover that area with their wireless system though, but worth a phonecall.

Could someone who had had BT install the Fibre / Infinity set up tell about the work that the engineer does when he calls.

Does the fibre modem require fixing to a wall or is it free standing and would fit on a shelf or a desk ? Roughly how deep would a shelf need to be for the modem to be stable on it ?

The hub doesn't look like a problem - I am guessing that it's about 6" x 4" and about 1" deep.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

It's recommended to wall mount the modem, so as to get better cooling. The ECI modem is slightly larger than Huawei at 180mm x 135mm x 38mm (LxWxH)

If you need further info then I would suggest starting a new thread, so as not to derail this one, thanks.

I've added Westgate cabinets to the map, can't find NDWES 8 though, serves around Sussex Gardens area. I believe the others are correct, but can't verify them, as some don't have numbers on Street View, and I don't get over to Westgate.

Edit: I wonder if this is NDWES 8, behind the gates, just before the grey box.
Edit: Yes that is PCP 8, my Infinity postcode check shows PCP 8 under the same postcode as the exchange.

Hi Yaz, any idea if Westgate is getting just FTTC or are they looking at FTTP?

I remember seeing something ages ago about westgate getting fibre to the property. We need a faster connection in our offices on Westgate high street!! smile

slimj, if Westgate is scheduled for 10 cabinets, then it will be FTTC, not FTTP, FTTP does not require cabinets.

There is 12 cabinets in Westgate, so two are going to miss out by the looks of it. I've added them all to my map now.

One of the older Openreach rollout lists had Westgate listed as FTTC/P.

I'm guessing that either Openreach have changed there plans to FTTC or are awaiting the FTTP on Demand next year.

Folkestone was also listed as being FTTC/P but has had cab's installed in many locations. There are further cab's for Shepway - 56 (Cheriton 9, Folkestone 37, Hawkinge 8, Hythe 2).

Re FTTP, I don't know anything in particular for either Westgate (or Folkestone). Streetworks permits may be required for Openreach to carry out associated works which will show up on the Roadworks.org site (though this may not be as obvious as the FTTC works descriptions).

I'm in westgate..but further west of NDWES5. Westgate was originally scheduled to have a mix of FTTC and FTTP with my road in particular being one of those designated for FTTP so i hope this hasnt changed as i was looking forward to getting FTTP!

We're fed from telephone poles with the nearest "cabinet" being beneath the footpath (junction of linksfield and warren drive http://goo.gl/maps/XCX3m . Just reported a phone fault today which i suspect is water in the chamber as it's happened a couple of times previously to me.

Anyway be interested if anyone got more info on FTTP/FTTC rollout for westgate - was originally scheduled for summer 2012 i thought!

I think you'll find, in fact I'm sure that you're cabinet is NDWES 5, and that chamber is just a chamber.

I think quite a lot of areas have been changed over to just FTTC, although I did have a look at the list of future exchanges and Westgate was shown as FTTC/P, if they are installing cabinets then it will only be FTTC, but saying that there are 12 cabinets in Westgate, so perhaps the other two are FTTP. PCP 12 serves the new properties in Lymington Rd, which I did think may be too small for FTTC, so that and yours could be FTTP, possibly.

How did you know yours was scheduled for FTTP, I don't think Westgate had any info in the spreadsheet as to what type was scheduled?

Install completed but very poor speeds. The engineer said it would improve over time. I have my doubts. Estimated down speed was 61.4Mbps and up speed was 20Mbps. I am getting 3.44Mbps down and 12.52Mbps up. There's something badly wrong!

I think it may be your profile with Plusnet, might be worth giving them a phone call. If you log in to your account it should say what your connection speed is.

Did you buy an unlocked modem?

Edit: Up speed is probably correct, quite often the estimates say 20, but people often get less.

Spot on! I phoned them and they confirmed that the profile was still on ADSL. Much better speeds now. Not quite what I hoped for but a big improvement on ADSL. Now I'm getting 44.44Mbps down and 13.81Mbps up. This is on Plusnet Extra Fibre.

The fibre modem dropped out briefly, which I mentioned when I phoned and they said they could see that that had happened and they would log a fault with BT.

Yes I did get an unlocked modem but I'm wary of installing it just yet.

I must have had the same installer as DeadRinger as he mentioned that he had just done another job and found that the cabinet had been connected the wrong way round.

It's generally not recommended to power down the modem for the first two days, glad to see you got your speeds sorted. You might well lose some speed if the DLM decides to turn interleaving on.

Even though the speeds we've both got are good, it's still disappointing not to get the estimated speed, but it does make a vast difference.

While it is a good idea to keep the modem running in those first two days, there is also a great advantage, if the line *does* turn out to have faults, to be able to see some or all of the line statistics in those first 48 hours.

That, at least, gives you a snapshot for comparison after DLM has intervened.

I've been through 2 installations, a upstream regrade, the switch of profile to 17a, an upgrade to 80/20, and two line faults. In that time, I've witnessed "initial" DLM intervention (ie at 48 hours) three times, and "normal" intervention once (plus the following removal of intervention). I've also seen anomolies with the Plusnet profile system that gets in the way too. I know I'd rather have access to that information... even if I can't actually do anything with it in the first 48 hours.

At the very least, I'd have one of the BQM ping graphs running. And Speedtest.net results. And BT Speedtest results (but mainly to watch the IP profile value). But if I had an unlocked modem, then I absolutely *would* be running with it, and using Bald-Eagle's graphing scripts (even if only taking a few snapshots, rather than running all the time).

[BTW; my experience is that DLM intervention is far more likely (in FTTC) to happen because of error rates on the line, rather than frequent resyncs.]

I'm not sure where to find my connection speed. Can you enlighten me?
Also, should I install my unlocked fibre modem now or not? I'm expecting BT to come and try to sort out the possible fault so I didn't want to swap modems at this stage if it's not advisable.

EDIT: Found the connection speed in my account - it says 78Mb! Shouldn't that be Mbps? Anyway, that's rather higher than I'm getting. However, that was via wireless (albeit a 300Mbps connection) but using a wire it shoots up to 72Mbps, not bad at all!

had a door to door from a talktalk bloke on saturday trying to sell me fibre broadband, told him i want interested then went straight on the website and placed the order.

he also told me they offered fibre to the premesis in my area? I'm confident he was talking out of his bottom so couldnt be bothered to talk to him.

Plusnet tested my line and produced an interesting chart showing just one dropout but after that, perfect. There was no need for a BT engineer to investigate.

As they were testing the line, I didn't install my unlocked modem until now. It shows some interesting figures - the downstream line rate is 79999 kbit/s whilst the upstream rate is 20000 kbit/s. The attainable rates are downstream 113508 kbit/s and upstream 30624 kbit/s. This all looks very good. Speedtests don't seem, however, to reflect these high rates. Very few errors so far, just a small number of FEC and HEC ones.

I'm so jealous! How far are you from you're cabinet?

Be aware that the errors reported in the graphical interface are wrong, they've muddled them up apparently.

It would be a good idea to use the scripts to record some stats for a while - both types.

I'm not sure of the exact distance from the cabinet as the installer was in such a hurry that I didn't have time to ask him. However, at a rough guess, it's about 200-250 metres.

I'll have a go at using the scripts, as you suggest.

If the installer was parked outside your house on Friday, rather than just having a long walk to the cabinet, then you are much closer than I am, but the speed seems OK and has been fairly reliable. Test below was done just now

He did park outside my house on Friday but he drove to the cabinet, probably to save time. However, it's less than 5 minutes walk away. Anyway, the speed is a massive improvement on what we used to get.

I notice this morning that NDBRO 5 and NDBRO 28 are now scheduled on Roadworks.org for cabinet installation later this month.

The works scheduled for NDRAM 1 don't appear to have commenced yet, they were scheduled to start yesterday.

No new live cabinets this week, the scheduled works for NDRAM 1 at St. Lawrence seem to have disappeared, and I couldn't see any signs of a cabinet when I drove past Thursday night. No sign of any NGA related works scheduled in Westgate either yet.

Had Sky Fibre activated on thursday and the speed test straight after installation showed 34down and 7up. I just did a speed test 3 days after and got 18down and 4up. Considering i'm paying for 40/10 i'm pretty dissapointed frown

There could well be something wrong, how far are you from your cabinet?

Edit: You should also be testing by a wired connection, not wireless (nor power line adapters either) which can severely reduce your speed, also use the BT speed tester posted below by wwwombat, and bare in mind all speed testers can vary, some worse than others. It might also be best if you start a new thread, to save sending this one off topic - by all means post a link here though.

Although the product uses the word "fibre", it still uses DSL technology over copper into the home - and that means speeds are dependent on the distance & quality of the copper, and that the product sold has the important "up to" get-out.

For a lot of people, the initial speed is the fastest it will go (visible) - but it also encounters a lot of errors (invisible). Within 48 hours or so, the DLM process will intervene to reduce speeds and/or adds interleaving & error-correction (which reduces speeds further). This reduction is also visible & disappointing.

A drop of speed of around 10-20% is "reasonable", but your drop - nearly 50% - is pretty high, and suggests there might be some problems worth investigating. You 'll have to do some of the investigation yourself - and with Sky - because BT's official fault threshold will be 15Mbps.

You might want to perform the test here: http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
then perform the further diagnostics, and report back the result (including the IP profile values)
