Cab news

Hi all,

My exchange has been enabled for fibre for quite some time & ive had a leaflet from BT saying fibre is available however whenever I check the BT or Sky fibre websites it says its not available yet.

So does anyone know how I can find out when the cab nearest my house will be fibre enabled? Quite often there is an open reach van down there.

The BT site can only give you information about fibre if the line is with them (ie not SKY or TT full LLU).

Have you checked any of the spreadsheets around to determine whether your post code is planned for FTTC? Should be able to find out the PCP which you "should" be connected to, presence of EO lines etc.

Just because a PCP is "at the bottom of the street" doesnt mean that you are connected to it!

Yes, I've had a look at a spreadsheet & it says its on phase 5a, any idea what that means?

It means it should have been done long ago, unless either:

- there is a big problem completing the job;
- there is an error on the BT Openreach or Wholesale database with your phone number.

Is there only one cabinet for your postcode?

Are you supposed to be getting FTTC or FTTP in that phase 5a?

As I said, FTTC should be complete. Up-to-date info on whether your cabinet is already enabled so there is something wrong with the data about your line can be obtained however. Let me know if FTTC is what is expected.

FTTP phase 5a could very well still be a while off. So if that's what you are expecting, you just have to wait.

FTTC is what I'm hoping to get, although I suspect its still being setup & as far as I'm aware no one else around where I live has it either as yet.

How do you know you'll get it at all? Not all lines on an exchange are made live, some aren't included as they aren't commercially viable for one reason or another.

I dont know that I will get it. I just know that my local exchange is enabled, people in my town have it but the estate I live on currently does not despite BT sending out leaftets about it & the open reach van is down by the cab quite often. So im concluding its coming at some point, just no idea when :/

What number is your cabinet, as it could have been refused planning permission, would be worth to check the local planning authority to see if their was a problem.

I'm without fibre at my current address despite the local exchange having been live for over a year now and my property was originally scheduled to be enabled as part of Phase 5a.

Openreach say it's coming soon; but they said that last summer when a neighbour reports seeing them push fibre round the ducts outside my house...

We need to know the postcode. That extract says only 37% of the postcode (that you seem to have edited out) is supplied by that cabinet. You could easily be one of the other 63%, which could be other cabinets or EO. We can check that.
