Exmouth now accepting orders

[link to this post]

The exmouth exchange is now accepting orders according to the Openreach Superfast where and when pages.
I've tried my own telephone number and several others but they all say June 2013. Is there an easy way to find out where can actually order FTTC right now?

Try the BT Wholesale checker with your phone number. Potentially your cabinet hasn't been enabled yet.

Thanks. I know my cabinet hasnt been enabled yet, im just intrigued to know where has been in Exmouth. I guess it could literally be just one cabinet that enables Openreach to claim they're accepting orders.

I wrote a small program that automatically checks whether the BT Wholesale Checker, for a particular number, has changed. Today it sent me an e-mail and I went to the BT site expecting to see FTTC as available. Instead it shows March has now been changed to June - so I'm both happy that my code apparently works and unhappy that the Exmouth availability date for my number seems to have shifted for the 3rd(?) time. frown

I've no idea. But according to http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ Exmouth exchange is now accepting orders - somewhere!

p.s I'm on cabinet 56 on Dinan Way and nothing yet either.

They normally announce a bunch at the same time. I'm guessing Exmouth will be in the next bunch.

You can also do that by creating a page watcher on one of the many free page watcher services and using the following link and replacing the 01234567890 with your own telephone number.

I can't take the credit for it, someone else posted it on here last year.

Worked a treat for me on both numbers I was monitoring, although it does pick up every change in the webpage , so not every notification you get is relevant.

Disappointed earlier when I checked the checker, and saw it now shows June for Cabinet 50, followed by confusion when I saw the exchange as AO on where&when. Nice to see I'm not the only one though.

Checked a few more numbers I know.
Cabinet 50 - June
Cabinet 4 - March
Cabinet 9 - June
Cabinet 17 - June

So not sure which cabinets are live yet.. Hope it doesn't take until June to get activated, cabinet has been in place for 5 months now, and it's only in the past month that I've managed to get 1.9mbit (up from 1.1 max before) thanks to persistence and eventually getting a more helpful Openreach engineer - ~40mbit will be very nice indeed!

Is it worth e-mailing Openreach about a cabinet's status? I think I contacted them before and they weren't any more specific than the online checker.

I can see Openreach making their way to my cabinet on Dinan Way. On the way back from work tonight i saw to vans parked up and a couple of chaps pushing the tubing down the ducts on the corner of Hulham and Marley Road.
According to an Openreach engineer i know our cabinet has power and connection to PCP, just no fibre.

Was updated on the status of cabinet 23 today by Openreach -

You are connected to the Exmouth Exchange, cabinet 23.

We are currently experiencing engineering difficulties in deploying your cabinet. This is due to blockages in the ducts, we are hoping to repair these and then will be able to continue the build of the cabinet. If all goes to plan we are hoping that the cabinet will be ready for service mid-April 2013, barring any further complications.

Oh well, it's a bit better than June. tongue

Was that information via email? The best they would give me was the June 2013 date. I see there are now 8 cabinets live in exmouth, all on the Salterton Road side.

Good luck to Exmouth. Keep on to BT if nothing is happening for your cab, bear in mind that the BT statement "Your town now has fibre" is a sound-bite, the reality is "part" of your town will have fibre...

Here in Teignmouth the planned coverage is full of holes, my cab near the centre will not now be enabled as "not economic" - easy access, easy power, very close to the main fibre runs but apparently does not have enough lines. BT managers are polite and responsive but can/will do nothing.... frustratingly my cab was suddenly removed from the rollout, I found out by chance when checking if FTTx was available yet.

Only hope is some infill money from Connecting Devon and Somerset who signed with BT at the end of January, meanwhile my small media business suffers slow UL on DSL that makes it very hard to compete in it's sector.

Bah!

Friday, they released approx 15 cabinets all up the hulham road side of exmouth and coming off dinan way. There are still quite a few with a June date dotted around.

Hey all!

Been trawling the site for days now and can't make sense of it!

Exmouth is now accepting orders but not me!? I'm EX8 5BN and cabinet 55 is across the road from me, by Dinan way trading estate.

Gutted my brother has already placed his order..... Sibling rivalry still takes place at 30!!!

Anyone shed any light?

Much love

Not all cabinets are enabled yet. Strange how yours isn't though, mine (50, down near St. Johns road) is - and installation date next Wednesday.

Be patient, it'll happen eventually!

(Assuming that you have a fibre cabinet there, nothing for your postcode on the BT checker...)

Yeah that's what I don't get about it, cabinet number 55 is across the road from my house and the Openreach guys were literally at the end of my drive over Xmas installing the cables. There seems to be another fiber box by McDonald's on my side but looking at some if the pictures I just saw box 55 doesn't look like it's fttc capable?

I check daily but nothing...... I'm worried I'm not getting it!

Yeah I saw this myself this morning. It's very odd though because they definitely pulled fibre cables to it....(I spoke to the Openreach engineers on the day they did it) seems off they pull cables there and not upgrade the box? And that box seems to carry liverton business park & b&q

I've emailed Openreach now as if that's the case I will be very depressed!

Does anyone know anything about Exeter road? EX8 1QD is my postcode, and everywhere says that the exeter road cabinets are not FTTC enabled - and have no plans to be, but I have seen openreach vans down that road over the last few months. I think my cab is 43. Another odd thing about these not having FTTC, is that these cabinets serve exeter road, and the colonies, lots of people missing out frown

According to the Openreach's availability planner there are no plans for FTTC on cabinet 43 frown I think the Openreach activity on Exeter Road is to lay the fibre spline for the rest of Exmouth, I would guess that the spline would go up Exeter road from the Exchange to the Hulham side road of Exmouth.

So my install was completed this morning. Think it took about 40 minutes total, which included the guy from Kelly climbing into the loft and rewiring things so that he could fit a proper master socket(which apparently I didn't have). The modem supplied was an ECI V-2FUb/r Rev B. As for speed the checker had estimated 59Mb, but speed tests are currently giving me around 70Mb - don't know if they'll stay that high in the long run but it's not a bad start. tongue

What is the wiring like?

Should have given you an interstitial VDSL faceplate, or some if you have a full ADSL faceplate seem to skip it.

You can plug into the test socket to see if the wiring is having an effect assuming no VDSL faceplate fitted
