Hi there,
Recently ordered fibre and just read today by the sounds of it you have a router and a BT supplied VDSL2 modem. I have the router but I presume the BT engineer on the day of installation provides the other piece of equipment does he?
Thanks

BT OpenReach do, indeed, supply the modem as part of the install.
BT Infinity 2 - IP profile 77 / 20 - super fast!
Previously BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload but then moved house - 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download

If you ordered Infinity from BT you'll get a HomeHub router in the post.
The OpenReach installer will supply a modem on the day, regardless of which ISP you have signed up with.

Right OK thanks guys, I presume no routers exist as of yet then that has a VDSL2 modem built into the router?

fritzbox if you can afford it.
Expect others to surface when isps start supplying on wires only installs.
BT Infinity 2 Since Dec 2012 - Estimate 65.9/20 - Attainable peak 110/36 - Current Sync 71/20

.... but depending on which ISP you are with will largely determine what the installer is contracted to do. I am not with BT and my engineer took one look at my router and he then dashed out to his van to get his laptop. He then checked my order against one for BT and pointed out that all he had to do was to install my modem and demonstrate that it was working whereas an install for a BT Infinity customer was a complete modem and router set up. That said, I know that some engineers are prepared to do a full install for non BT customers. My point is that if you are not with BT you may need to know how to do a PPPoE modem to router set up over WAN.

The Draytek Vigor 2850n also has a VDSL modem built in, but also over £200.

Haha yes that is rather pricey .
The F!B 7360 is now selling for just over £110. I have owned a 7390 for just over 2 years. Recently, I had line issues and my F!B would not connect. Rang the manufacturer in Berlin and immediately they offered an exchange. VDSL set up is a breeze - IPv6, and DECT capable.

Is it pretty easy to set up a PPOE connection to a modem then?

No harder than entering the details for ADSL, IIRC all I needed to change was the setting from ppoa to ppoe on my netgear router.

Oh ok easy peasy then

It is. But I was the first non-BT install 'my' engineer had done and he did not think it was possible to go online with just the modem .

Nice option their aavid60 but unfortunately for me it only appears to offer FAST Ethernet ports with a Gigabit WAN port.
