Sync Ok - Download Sucks

Hey all,

Had my infinity installed for 10 days now,but only just got around to using it. Sync speeds on the HH5 are 79/20 - I only live 100yds from the cabinet!

However, i have yet to see a speedtest or download (at varying times during the day) exceed 35mb.

Tried all sorts to eliminate problems my end - differnt router (Netgear N600), cables laptops etc.

I was expecting with a sync of 79mbit downloads would be in the high 60's at off peak times.

Any suggestions please?

First question ... wired or wireless?

The get Task Manager running so you can see how it is downloading.

Run speedtests from here and elsewhere and look at the task manager output. Does it ever get above 38Mbps? Is it up and down continually? The graph can tell you a lot about what is happening. Or grab a screen shot, put it on photobucket or flikr and provided a link.

I am on wired. Tried both on my internal network and direct connection to the router.

Most testing is on a mac, but results are the same when using a PC.

I'll checkout task manager on the PC and see what happens and post up some screen shots

I suspect Christmas related congestion, either at the exchanges and/or the ISPs, everyone's busy streaming movies.

Have you run the BT Wholesale Performance Test and then gone through to the Further Diagnostics at the bottom of the results page? Check the IP profile.

More likely you have a wireless problem. I'm sync'ed at 59.4Mbps and getting this right now.

What exchange are you on? Congestion on an FTTC exchange I would regard as remarkable.

It's not a wireless problem, I tested with a wired connection.

I'm on LCULV here which I seem to recall has a 'parent' exchange as well. Last time it was a bit wobbly I was told there was an amber capacity warning on the parent one

Looks like I haven't ported the old Openreach spreadsheets to this computer, so at the moment I can't look up the FTTC headend for that, to check.

Your exchange itself is Red on 20CN, but that's irrelevant.

You'd have to have a fairly recent spreadsheet anyway as it was only activated in October.

No, it could very well have been on the old one as not scheduled . It would still show the headend if so.
