Cheers BT "contractor", Infinity dead, phone dead.

14:52pm... BT contractor turns up.

15:02pm... He leaves, Job done.

All he did was lob a new faceplate on, use a large gadget to do something electronically to the line, that failed so the faceplate came back off, service socket connection and the gadget did what he wanted...

...faceplate back on. Off he trotted.

Now no phone and HH5 still not connected (told to allow to Midnight).

Rang them at 7pm and guess what... "We have to send an engineer, Tuesday".

Beyond annoyed.

Does the phone work in the test socket, or has he wrecked the whole thing?

U can sued BT Openreach for unfit purpose work by the third party contractor!

Taken the whole faceplate off, test socket still s dead line. If you ring the home phone it's coming through as engaged.

So totally botched mate. Livid still 16 hours later.

Sounds to me like you should be able to claim under their compensation scheme. It's an avenue I would be pursuing in that situation. Politely but forcefully.

I see it as a clear disregard for the contract, and us.

In 2 minds to even carry on with them to be honest, I'm that annoyed.

If it's coming up as engaged, then he's put a short on somewhere. He's possibly messed up the cabinet jumpering and shorted both legs of the line together there.

For him to say allow until midnight, is quite frankly him fobbing you off.

BT Openreach engineer turned up out the blue earlier. The chimp from the other company had incorrectly crimped the wires at the cabinet just as you said - soon fixed.

But the reason the BT bod came, was because the contractor had put a call in to say there was a fault somewhere he couldn't find. something we knew nothing about.

Any how - now running and getting the Billion 7800N to act as a router and the HH5 as a hub is stumping me.

Set the Billion to EWAN and "Optain IP address" on auto... DMZ in HH5 set to the billion but it's having none of it.

With who? You don't have a contract with the company that services your telephone line. It doesn't matter what retail package you subscribe to. As long as it's provided over your telephone line maintenance will be performed by BT openreach or their appointed contractors.

BTor is not going to know nor care if you choose to move away from BT Retail. They get their money just the same no matter who you pay for telephony or broadband as long as you don't switch to VM cable.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can do that with the HH5. If you are wanting to use your own router, you are probably best to obtain one of the standalone HG612 modems from ebay.

You can indeed, on it right now. Took loads of messing about but running right now.

But looks like the "Totally Unlimited" side of Infinity isn't as unlimited as they made out.

Unfortunately, Torrent sites are blocked due to court orders, not traffic management policy.

No, you can't. They don't supply the end user service, the end user didn't order anything from and has no contract with Openreach.

Unless you can show where you are guaranteed phone and broadband 24x7 and some kind of material loss you can't sue.

They mean unlimited data. It's not talking about how many sites you can access.

Sadly, a commonplace scenario. Idiot contractors raising a 'dis D-side' task when they have put the fault on themselves, or worse still have failed to 'read' the cab correctly, but can't be arsed to spend time working it out.

err, yes, but mainly Openreach 'new starters' the latest tranche of newly employed bods. God forbid the old hands would get these snippy (easy) tasks.

Not much work round here for OR or contractors, folks seem quite happy with a 12 or 13Mbps sync on ADSL2+ - the vdsl cabinet at the end of the street is a bit of a white (or green) elephant

I know what you mean, mines got no more than 60 terminations in it, nearly three years after going live.
Mind you plenty of others jammed full, and even 2nd DSLAMs being fitted.
