With self install vdsl is there a chance that "idiot contractors" might do the work at the cabinets?

err, yes, but mainly Openreach 'new starters' the latest tranche of newly employed bods. God forbid the old hands would get these snippy (easy) tasks.

Not much work round here for OR or contractors, folks seem quite happy with a 12 or 13Mbps sync on ADSL2+ - the vdsl cabinet at the end of the street is a bit of a white (or green) elephant smile

I know what you mean, mines got no more than 60 terminations in it, nearly three years after going live.
Mind you plenty of others jammed full, and even 2nd DSLAMs being fitted.
