DSl checkers and availability - neighbours

I have FTTC through BT Infinity, and have done at this address for 18 months. I'm around 500m from my cabinet so it's not the best, but I get around 35/8 . My exchange is accepting orders. The estate is big and there aren't a huge number of cabs so I expect they're pretty densely populated

I just chatted to a neighbour who is approximately 75m nearer to the cabinet, and according to the DSL checkers, on the same cabinet. As it's a long street he is a different postcode. The dsl checkers all say no FTTC.

What would be likely reasons for this discrepancy?

Could it be a full cabinet? Perhaps mine only showed as available since I already have it?

Could be a full cabinet, usually a message appears for that.

Or if JUST using postcode the checkers are invariably wrong, you NEED to use full address or telephone number.

It could be a full cabinet, or it could be that a postcode checker is being used. Those are well known to be unreliable.

Use his phone number into this checker. It may not work if he has an LLU phone line. If it doesn't work, then the full address option from that page. Not the pure postcode.

The line above the estimates table should give the cabinet number.

I had inded checked using that checker URL. In both cases were are reported as on the same cabinet.

There is a clue in the ADSL2+ speeds. Fractionally slower so the cables may not go the logical way, but in terms of cable distance to the cabinet you may be closer. Now would not normally expect to see a drop from 35 Mbps to too far to run so don't show availability on a 75 metre distance.

Needs more analysis of each individual property in the area by address to see if this is an anomaly and an error, or just the poor luck that the telephone wiring was laid out a certain way historically.

It seems at least another neighbour does have it so I think he's off to BT again after being given the run around......
