EMMARCH EXC, CAB P2 - Fibre Enabled, CAN'T ORDER?

[link to this post]

So after a back and forth with BT, I've been pointed in the direction of these forums in the hope that someone might be able to assist.

I'm connected to exchange EMMARCH, on cabinet/PCP 2. The OR website shows that this exchange and cabinet is AO, and ready to order - however, contacting BT results in nothing, I can't order, and can't give me a reason why or how long it should be until I can.

Can someone please help as to why this would be? I have a distinct feeling this is a database/information out date issue, and not actually an issue with the exchange, cabinet or anything technically related.

Postcode(s) used:
ST14 8NX
ST14 8NZ

Telephone: 01283820650

Help, as I'm slowly losing the will (and miss being in a property served by Virgin Media).

Thanks!

ST14 8NX is on the boundary of two exchange areas.
ST14 8NZ looks to be on Marchington exchange which is same as the number, so looks like Cabinet 2 on that exchange.

The BT Wholesale checker for various addresses on that cabinet shows it is not enabled.

So either a mistake or cabinet has only just gone live and the BT Wholesale and ISP level checkers are a day or two behind. How long as the Openreach site said the cabinet has been live.

Batboy - Where did you get this information from? I've had information from Superfast Staffordshire (the local BDUK funded team) confirm that cabinets 1,2 and 3 all went live earlier this week.

MrSaffron - ST14 8NX is on the boundary, but had confirmed that it is connected to the EMMARCH Exchange, also on Cabinet 2 (the same as ST14 8NZ).

I had the same issue with the wholesale checker, however when I tried checking an Address (The Old Vicarage, ST14 8NZ) with Sky, it seems It can get fibre!

The cabinets have been live on OR's website for around 3 days now, so it's still early days but would've expected BT and other ISPs to be slightly more on the ball?

Don't forget the AO from Openreach refers to orders from its customers. In this case BT Wholesale; Sky; TalkTalk and Zen. The have to order and have fitted a GEA Cablelink at the exchange before it becomes available to retail customers.

RobertoS - it's included to help anyone trying to figure out the issue run tests directly against a line (as a postcode, as repeatedly get reminded isn't as useful as a telephone number).

Besides, it hasn't and won't ever have a phone attached to it, so I'm not too bothered laugh

Fair enough re no phone attached.

It there was, it's best to PM numbers to anyone here requesting it, as the forums are crawled by google so people could end up getting even more spam calls than normal.

It does not, but I believe this might be somewhat related to the wholesale checker responding with it being on the boundary of Marchington and Uttoxeter exchanges.

A telephone number is on one exchange.

A postcode covers maybe 20 properties, 5 might be on one exchange and 15 on the other, which is the case for the NX code

If this was 2 weeks after it was believed to go live I would offer to push a check of the BT Wholesale system, but for just 3 days it is too early to super panic and pester people.

Agreed, however this was meant to have gone live April, then June, July, August, September, and now finally October - I naively expected that when things finally did go live it would be available pretty quickly.

I'd appreciate a push to check the wholesale system, as it seems in places you can order (The Old Vicarage for example), but others you cannot.

This Wholesale checker? For your number, which gives Marchington Cab 2, or for the other place?

Only if you email me next week and include full address and telephone details and a link to this thread.

I know its frustrating to wait, but all too often those who rush headline do find out all the problems, so just letting things settle for a day or two can help.

In terms of the on the ball, with the rate that cabinets are being enabled it is impossible to manually check the checkers for every address, unless we push the price up to do this sort of thing. In theory the County project team are best placed to do this sort of checking and feed into the BT Wholesale and Openreach teams, plus they do get paid to do this too.

In reply to a post by SleeD:

THE VICARAGE, MARCHINGTON, UTTOXETER, ST14 8NZ on Exchange MARCHINGTON is served by Cabinet 2 and cannot get fibre.

THE OLD VICARAGE, MARCHINGTON, UTTOXETER, ST14 8NZ gives:-
Your address has been successfully matched; however we cannot determine ADSL availability at this address. Please try the Telephone Number or Postcode Checker.
which will be because it is on Sky. But are you sure it is Sky Fibre?

If you go to http://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/fibre-optic/ - and enter st14 8nz, select address The Old Vicarage, you'll notice you can order Fibre (albeit 40Mbit, but im not sure of the products offered by Sky) right now.

Shall do.

Oddly, it was actually the County project team that notified me that the service was now available, and I should be able to order immediately - from what you've said, it seems it might be worth me going back to them and asking if they can update BT Wholesale / Openreach (The latter seems to have already happened).

Thanks for the help MrSaffron, very much appreciate it!

Update:

Managed to order Infinity now, promised 43-65Mbit, ended up getting 28Mbit.

Reason is due to 500M of old Ali pairs - these run along side copper pairs, however OR refuse to switch these over as the "Broadband Boost" engineers sent out by BT aren't capable of doing it.

How am I meant to be able to request an OR engineer to go down a mainhole and switch these pairs for me, as it seems impossible requesting this via BT?

Some inside help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,
