Needing to buy a fibre modem

Hope I'm posting in the right place, sorry if not.

I'm with BT at the moment and speeds aren't too good. Decided to move over to fibre, can get 40/8, so decided I'll do that. I decided to go with AAISP and I want to use my own modem/router. Can anyone give me advice on which modem/router I'll need for fibre? Don't know too much about hardware so input would be appreciated.

Billion 8800NL at £64 is a good start as an all in one. The AXL version adds 802.11ac and ups the price a lot.

The choice of router is much wider if you opt to use a Huawei HG612 and use it as the modem

Decided to use a Huawei HG612 & Asus router here.

But, if you go for seperate modem, make sure it supports G.INP, some like Draytek 2750n don't.

Both these ones look good. At least I now have an idea of what to look for in the modem/router aisle. Never really fancied the idea of separate router and modem. Thanks Mr Saffron.

It has two major plus points.

Mr Saffron mentioned one (much wider choice of router), the other is that you can reboot the router as often as you like without worrying about the DSLAM throwing its toys out of the pram because of one too many re-syncs.

Thanks for the info. Never been a fiddler, scared in case I make changes that muck things up but have always had a modem/router and would like to keep using one.

One question I meant to ask, is it still a requirement to supply a MAC code to move providers? I've never changed before, always with BT from the start. Would welcome any advice on the necessity of providing a MAC or not.
