Yesterday the OR engineer installed the modem and tested the line which gave 40Mbps OK (expected speed)
During yesterday various speed tests gave me 34+ Mbps.
Today it has been consistently 19+ Mbps.
I read a thread on here entitled First 10 Days (Jan 2015) where it was mentioned that for FTTC this 10 day training exercise doesn't apply.
Plusnet tonight tested the line out OK and it is still set to deliver 40Mbps and I was told the first 10 days training thing. I was quoted 38-40 but this 19+ Mbps on day 2 has put the wind up me. Should I be worried?

The key is either looking at the modem sync speeds or use the BT wholesale speed test and follow it through to find out what the configured speed (i.e. IP Profile is set to) this is guaranteed to be related to the current sync speed on FTTC. The mirror setting of this that PlusNet use can be out of date.

90% tests with wired router connects at 100M Ethernet max only 2 latest tests wifi at 5 feet away which in fact gave a tad better result I. e. Broke the 20Mbps this evening. TB says it logs speed tests by post code. My code is TA10 9BU. All tests until late this evening wired.

Regarding Plusnet's router stats they seemed to offer very little details. I did some BT speedchecks though doubt it was the BTW one. Could you give me a link for BTW please

A few things to note when using the BT Wholesale test you've just had the link to.
1) If wanting to check the actual speed, (don't laugh, I'm coming to times you aren't doing it for a simple speed test), always do it wired.
2) You can largely ignore the first page of the results. The latency is the only figure of interest there.
3) At the bottom of that page is a button for "Further diagnostics". Click that  .
It will ask for your phone number, and then after a few seconds will come up with a more complex page of results. We aren't interested in the graphics - the important stuff is everything that is in the down and up text boxes. The speeds are there again, plus a thing called the IP Profile.
For our purposes here it is best to copy and paste the full contents of both of those boxes please.
Sometimes it is only the IP Profile we are after, as we are doing it when we already know we have a low speed. In which case we ignore all the red instructions, tick we've done them, and carry on. In just that sort of scenario a wireless test is acceptable.

Key line is IP Profile for your line is - 38.71 Mbps which shows that you are connecting almost at the maximum speed for the 40/2 product you are on.
So any difference between that speed and speed tests is down to factors like wireless, slow PC, congestion and a myriad of other factors.

What does PlusNet report as your current line speed?

This should be set automatically to match (approximately) your IP profile, but if it's lower then it will limit your throughput. Sometimes it gets out-of-sync, and the solution is to ask a PlusNet rep to manually reset it.
For lots of examples, search for 'stuck profile' on http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php. Posting there seems to be the quickest path to resolution.

Yeap that's it should be
IP Profile for your line is - 38.71 Mbps or very close to that.
The 21 Mbps setting is limiting you, and you said in another post time to report a stuck profile.

Not sure if there should be any delay at all, needs a PlusNet user to say what they've experienced and cannot recall people saying it took X hours after it got reset.

Should be no delay.
It may require a PPP disconnect/reconnect to get the new value used though.

Remembered the reps instructions.
Before you try anything power down the router then power down the OR Modem
then
Power up the OR modem until you get solid DSL light THEN
Power up the PN Router
Then test..
I'm back at approx. 35 Mbps

Coming up to 10 days since Plusnet FTTC install and trying to squeeze whatever can yet be squeezed from my new fibre broadband connection, is there any way that the IP Profile values BTW 38.71 and PN 37, if increased could improve on my average 35Mbps Down and 1.82 Mbps Up speeds from the speed tests I have completed. Or are these figures [35 / 1.82] the max achievable?
For example if PN upped the IPprofile to 38.71 would I squeeze a bit more?
I�m just trying to get as much as poss. During this 10 day period as I guess I will be living with the result from here on.

Whatever BT Wholesale or ISP reps say, there is no 10-day "training" period on FTTC. I suppose BTW may still stupidly record the lowest connection speed in that period and set an FTR from it, which is all that happened in the first 10 days on ADSLx anyway. It's a big myth.
As for higher speed, on FTTC the IP Profile is 0.9679 times the connection speed if not on G.INP, and 0.9669 times it if it is on. The Plusnet Current line speed as recently as two months ago I believe with your IP Profile of 38.71 would correctly be 38.5. The rep setting it to 37 has almost certainly prevented that happening. 38.71 looks to be the maximum on the 40Mbps product as it will be sync'ing 1 or 2 Mbps below 40,000.
In effect on the upstream there is no IP Profile. It is always to the product speed, in your case 2Mbps, and I don't think Plusnet have a copy system running for that.

I reckon so.
If you weren't on maximum sync and always will be, it would self-correct when the BTW IP Profile changed. As it is, it won't.

PNet support changed the IPProfile up to 40Mbps last night [though it still shows as 37Mbps on their portal]
Got 2Mbps more this morning so up to 37.4Mbps.

Got 2Mbps more this morning so up to 37.4Mbps.
My experience is also that the Plusnet IP profile system undercooks things by 1.5 - 2.5Mbps. I've given up on trying to persuade plusnet of that though.

When your line transfers 40 Mbits, the data is encapsulated into some PPPoE frames, with some header data. Once you strip those headers from 40 Mbit, you are left with 38.71Mbits of IP packet data.
The IP profile is used to control transfer at this higher IP level - so a setting (by BT) of 38.71 ensures the FTTC line will be 100% occupied on a 40 Mbps sync.
When your computer further strips the TCP and IP headers, you are left with around 37.5 Mbit. That's why speed testers only get up to that level.

There's also this pile of gobbdegook in BT SIN 498, which you can google if you don't need to go to bed for a few days  . 1.2.1 VDSL2 rates
The upstream and downstream VDSL2 data rate is reported to the CP BRAS/Radius upon PPP discovery (a similar mechanism exists for DHCP � see Section 2.1.7). The VDSL2 rate states the upper rate at which Ethernet traffic can be transmitted on the link. This traffic comprises of:
� A 4 byte per frame overhead added by Openreach for internal routing,
� A degree of overhead introduced by DSL (Packet Transfer Mode layer),
� The EU traffic sent from the CP, or from the EU.
As a result of these overheads, the actual achievable throughput in bits per second is dependent on the reported VDSL2 rate and frame size of the data being transmitted. Openreach advise CPs to consider carefully how they interpret the reported VDSL2 rate in relation to the services they sell, the specifics on an individual EU's use of the service, and any impacts of their own network.
For example, if the reported downstream VDSL2 data rate is 40,000 kbit/s and the IP packet size is 1500 bytes (i.e. Ethernet frame size at End User LAN is 1514 bytes) the maximum throughput achievable is actually 39,178 kbit/s (when measured at the EU LAN i.e. no VLAN header, but including Ethernet header). Alternatively, if the IP packet size is 64 bytes the maximum throughput achievable is further reduced to 35,721 kbit/s. This overhead is particularly important to consider in respect to the downstream shaper setting on the CP�s BRAS. CPs are advised to understand and account for the method that their BRAS uses to implement traffic shaping.
