I doubt being under BDUK makes much difference
It makes a lot of difference being done by a BDUK Project instead of a commercial project.

BDUK Projects have a contractual completion date that needs to be met, whereas a commercial project has none, so in most cases commercial projects get put on hold in preference of the BDUK work being completed on time.

Our FTTP was down to be done October - December 2011 where the top half of our road along with several other areas on our exchange was also to be completed by, sadly BT Openreach stopped halfway through the work even though all the hardware has already been installed in the chambers and up the pole.

We have be told that we are still part of the original first phase of the FTTP Commercial Project (i.e. the original 66%) a few engineers that I have bumped into (stalked LOL) have also confirmed that they have put a load of commercial project on hold so that they could meat the BDUK deadlines.

I am not saying that no commercial projects are being done, yes they are being done, but at a very slower rate compared to BDUK work.

So yes, being covered by the BDUK Project instead of being part of a Commercial Project, does make a difference.

It makes a massive difference to people who's commercial rollout has been put on the back burner so that BT can meet their targets for BDUK contracts. That's what has impacted for Paul.
Exactly, all I get of BTOR is loads of apologies and an estimated date that it will be done (which never happens due to probably BDUK works), however the start of November our local MP was given a projected date of end of November 2015 (7 days) from (I think) BT's Head of parliamentary affairs (didn't know there was one), not that I have any faith in this being done by then, but one can only hope.

Also being on FTTP there is no chance in seeing if work is being done due to nothing shows up on roadworks.org (unless digging/planning etc is needed), also nothing is put on the BTWholesale DSL Checker until its completed, so nobody knows when it will be done apart from BTOR.

What's worse is some/most areas that are covered by the BDUK Projects also have some of the work done by the Commercial Project, so those areas have twice the chance of getting fibre, whereas being located in Greater London we only have the Commercial Project and no BDUK projects.

ahh that makes more sense, you have my greatest sympathies though.
Thanks, I am hoping that the projected date my local MP has been given is more reliable than the several estimated completion dates that have come and gone.

Going by what is exactly written in the letter (cannot say exactly what was in it) BT has said that the work is nearing completion and seems to think it "will" be done by that date, but we will see.

And I can certainly empathis with Paul's wait for faster speds but it's not like those under BDUK haven't had delays as well, not to mention several areas under BDUK are still on ADSLMax whilst those commercially covered areas will likely have ADSL2. Yes if you are long way from the exchange you might not see a massive difference in speed between the two.

They will on FTTP, which is what the thread is about smile.

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. Sync 59997/15142kbps @ 600m. - BQM

Yes but if you are on a 21CN exchange which most in the commerical rollout areas likely will have you are already likely better off than those on 20CN exhcanges which are likely covered under BDUK. So whilst those in the commerical areas might still be waiting many will already be above the new planned USO of 10Mbps, whilst some under BDUK are still below that threshold. Yes some commerfcial areas are as poorly served as the rural areas.

Sure many of us want faster speeds and it's frustrating to see the dates keep slipping for whatever reasons, doesn't matter if you are part of BDUK are commercial rollout. The question now becomes what happens to those areas already above the planned new 10Mbps will this dealy fibre rollout further to them as the focus moves onto ensuring those under it are brought up the minimum threshold by 2020.

If you have FTTP distance of course makes no difference.

Well we are no way near 10Mbps, we are about half that, and that is on a good day with no wind or rain.
When it rains or gets windy we drop down to nearly nothing and then loose connection, hell, we have often lost our phone line too.
This was what we was getting 4 days ago with all the wind and rain: TBB:Speedtest:144805287011565530039

And there is no difference on us being on 20CN or 21CN apart from the little boost to the upload (on a good day)

Like I said that's on a good day.

So being on a 21CN ready exchange doesn't mean we are better off than 20CN users.
Granted the users closer to their exchange will be, but not the users on the outer edges of their exchanges coverage, like us.

Same Exchange as Paul Kirby, at the edge of the area for the exchange (LNILC 66). 3Mbps which though better than some, but terrible for Greater London, barely 7 miles from the City of London.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html...

Have pretty much given up, I dream of a USO of 10Mbps...

Well back in 2011 cabinet 66 was down as FTTP same as ours, however cabinet 66 wasn't down to be done in phase 1, so if you have no hardware up your pole (that's if you have poles in your area) then you might get put on FTTC instead, I think all that was partly done and that was part of the first phase of the commercial projects will still be completed as it was.

BT and Openreach still say we are down as the Commercial FTTP Project and are still down to be done, which is good news.

At the start of November our local MP was told that our FTTP install was nearing completion and gave us a projected date of end of November, and then said that this is welcoming news, sadly this never happened and our local MP was all on top of this due to I got another letter from him on 26th November with another update from BT saying that they are looking into this and would get back to him in a few days, I will be sending him an email for an update on Monday.

I just don't really know what the hold up is, I know its not our end due to we have all the hardware in the chambers and up the poles, hell we even their fibre engineers come down throughout July to replace all the fibre cables that daisy chain between all the Fibre DP hardware and they have also been spliced too.
One of the engineers even told me that he was confused that they had to redo all that work that they originally did back end of 2011.

I was even tempted of contacting people high up in BT for info.
I already have contact details for Tim O'Sullivan, Director of Public Affairs and Clova Fyfe, Head of Parliamentary Affairs but I am guessing that they probably won't talk to me tongue.

I think the issue your side of the A406 is that your area is covered by several cabinets all or mostly FTTP, granted cabinets 32 and 50 was originally either not viable or not part of the first phase rollout, however they are being done with the Commercial FTTC Project (LEP)
Cabinet 32 is down as to be ready in 5 months and cabinet 50 is down to be ready in 12 months, I think these dates are just generic place holder dates.

BTW have you tried emailing Openreach, I know I have sent you a couple of PM's back in July, but maybe Openreach could say what's happening.

I know BT are still installing fibre in your and our area due to I see the odd BT work on roadowrks and I now and then see work like "1 ,Build 1 precast chamber in 915mm x 445mm x 965mm deep in Footway,Install 12m of 1 way poly duct in Footway,Install 3m of 1 way poly duct in Verge,Install 5m of 1 way poly duct in Carriageway" and that road is all FTTP with some homes without fibre.

What about Virgin Media, is that down your road?
I know we will never ever be able to get that due to being listed as a conservation area, so no lovely fibre cabinets down our road.

I am just waiting to hear back from our local MP, so hopefully its good news this time.

So you might be lucky.

Thanks Paul,

I email Openreach once a year to see if there is any progress. My estate was built in 2009/2010 all our phone lines are in under pavement ducting and at that point Virgin Media gave up on laying new cable. If they ever did extend the fibre in my neighbouring street to us, our ducting is pretty new. There are only 250-300 lines connected to PCP 66, hence the stall on commercial viability.

I'm not feeling as annoyed about it today.

Good luck to you too.
