I finally got FTTP installed on Friday, much to my delight, having signed up for 330 down and 30 up.
However, when the guy had left I did a speed check and seem to be actually getting about 15 down but not far off the 30 for upload. I take it that this is not normal ? The lady I spoke to at BT told me that it may take a while to settle down, but that seems unlikely and two days later it hasn't yet. Any clues on what could be a cause and what I need to do next?
thanks

Got the results link from a speed test down at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest (the shape of the throughput lines can convey information sometimes).
FTTP has no settling down it is a fixed speed connection.

Were you an ADSL customer before the FTTP was installed?
The reason I ask as it is a classic sign that the BTW IP Profile is still set to ADSL speeds when the upload speed is nearly at the maximum for the FTTP product but the download is under 17Mbps.
You need to get BT to chase this setup error and correct it.

Thanks. This is what I got when I ran the test. Upload speed was slightly down on earlier, but still still around the same as the download

Ok thanks, that makes sense. I was an ADSL customer so hopefully it'll be fairly easy to rectify

The very flat speed adds to theory that the IP Profile is limiting you and should update. If still bad in another 48 hours and you've got nowhere chasing BT support then email me [email protected] and will set about pestering them.

ok, will do. Many thanks

Could you run the further diagnostics test here http://speedtest.btwholesale.com
This should tell you your IP profile.

@OP
But don't do the router re-sync first, else we'll never know. If it is low, like 18-19Mbps, re-sync the router afterwards.

5. Reboot your modem/router by powering it off, waiting one minute, and then powering it up again. Wait for any lights on the router to stabilise before starting the test.

Thanks but .... I've tried this a few times, but the further diagnostics test doesn't seem to work for me on this site. I get the message :
'The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection'
Safari on a Mac, if that's relevant

Yes, that's what I was referring to. But also, I'd forgotten it is FTTP .

You need to ask BT for your "Broadband circuit Service ID" and use that for the "Further Diagnostics test". Only way I can run it on my FTTP line.

Magically now working - 299 download speed. Woohooo. Thanks for input from all

Snap in exact same situation installed today upload always seems consistent at 30mb. Did you get anywhere with this?

The very post before yours quite clearly states now getting 299mbps

That depends in what format the poster is looking at the thread in Lee, I see his post as directly beneath the first post of the thread.

Apologies. That view makes it confusing imo

Hi - yes, sorted now and getting full speed. The problem for me was, apparently, that my contract had not yet officially started (the process has been going on for a long time), and the speed was pegged at the maximum for the old line.
The installation was on a Friday and it was sorted by the following Monday afternoon, but I did hassle BT in the meantime. Not sure if it would have sorted itself out automatically

Snap issue with number porting was not showing correct product on bt.com since they've changed it and given me new telephone number (going to port original number on copper over to voip).
Good old bt =)
Thinkbroadband tester only shows 125mb max speeds all the time though speedtest.net ok and bt wholesale speedtester

Based on the shape then either your AV software is in the way, or something odd contention/throttling going on.
Ookla reporting higher is no surprise based on the shape. The hint that something is up is the way the single and multiple download are a long way apart, and suggests each download is throttled to around 25 Mbps, and thus ookla who use a higher number of simultaneous downloads is also likely to report higher.
We can up the number of downloads, but that makes the test less reflective of actual use.
How is the connection behaving when you download a single file without any download managers/accelerators?

Its just dropped back again no longer doing 330 any more on speedtest really annoying as its not evening hitting minimum commit rates now.
No AV or anything else to interfer direct from openreach -> PPPoE on macbook pro (same results when on homehub5)
