FTTP Speed

I finally got FTTP installed on Friday, much to my delight, having signed up for 330 down and 30 up.

However, when the guy had left I did a speed check and seem to be actually getting about 15 down but not far off the 30 for upload. I take it that this is not normal ? The lady I spoke to at BT told me that it may take a while to settle down, but that seems unlikely and two days later it hasn't yet. Any clues on what could be a cause and what I need to do next?

Got the results link from a speed test down at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest (the shape of the throughput lines can convey information sometimes).

FTTP has no settling down it is a fixed speed connection.

The machine I'm doing the test on is wired

Were you an ADSL customer before the FTTP was installed?

The reason I ask as it is a classic sign that the BTW IP Profile is still set to ADSL speeds when the upload speed is nearly at the maximum for the FTTP product but the download is under 17Mbps.

You need to get BT to chase this setup error and correct it.

Ok thanks, that makes sense. I was an ADSL customer so hopefully it'll be fairly easy to rectify

The very flat speed adds to theory that the IP Profile is limiting you and should update. If still bad in another 48 hours and you've got nowhere chasing BT support then email me [email protected] and will set about pestering them.

Could you run the further diagnostics test here http://speedtest.btwholesale.com

This should tell you your IP profile.
