FTTPoD stop sell lifted!

Seeing as BTWholesale has now lifted the stop sell on FTTPoD products, is there any idea on any ISP's planning to sell FTTPoD to business/consumer clients?

I'm with Zen and tried them to install but they weren't interested.

They were happy to quote me several thousand pounds to install and >£600/month for a 20Mb leased line but not interested in installing fibre on demand.

Not interesting really. I do hope many more isp's will telling BTW not interesting (too expensive, not worth it for residential customers)

Best to wait for the cheaper one - the G.Fast in 2017 330/30 rather than FTTPoD.

Depends on what you're after and if you want a rate not dependant on line distance.

I'm not a residential customer but I cant justify >£600/month for a leased line.

It is my own opinion that the main reason ISPs are not offering this is that fibre on demand makes a mockery of their super expensive leased line offerings.

Does anyone know why Openreach charge ISPs obscene amounts in monthly costs for FTTPoD in addition to the construction costs? Once a customer has paid £1000s to have the FTTPoD infrastructure in place to their doorstep, then surely the monthly cost of supplying FTTPoD costs the same as native FTTP and should be priced as such? Last time i checked, ISPs were quoting > £300 per month for a FTTPoD service, in addition to construction costs which obviously would put many residential punters off.

Maybe that's what they want to do - however based on the fact that FTTP/H/B can add 10-20K to a house value if I was selling and I could get it then I would before doing so.

While FoD is up to 300 Mbps, remember to only compare the 40 (or is it 80) Mbps commit rate over the Openreach segment when comparing to leased lines.

i.e. its an 80 Mbps service with burst to 300 Mbps

I personally find 2 year contract hard to swallow - 3? no way!

Some providers morphed it into a 2 year one, by spreading the third year over the first two years, which may explain higher costs to some extent.

It appears Spectrum only offer FTTPoD where they have their own network (South Wales & SW England) & I very much doubt it that Spectrum are going to install their network from Land's End all the way up to John o'Groats.

No-one's going to make any real effort. The product is being obsoleted soon anyway.

FOD is a single provision for the requester and no one else the cost is determined by what has to be done ie in terms of network build and any excess construction charges -- those charges as they passed to the service provider which then packages a cost to you. to ensure the service provider does not lose out over a Longer /. higer contract is required between the subscriber and the Service provider

better to have a direct conversation with Openreach especially if more tham one or 2 in a single place they you could fund the ECC's in advance and then purchase a native FTTP service of choice -- See community Fibre partnership

I don't think that is entirely the case. When FTTPoD is ordered BT will install a fibre node close to the property and then a final tail from that node to the property itself. Everything up to the node is shared. The idea being that they take a loss on the first install but that subsequent installs are cheaper for BT because they only have to install the final tails.

However, that very much relies on it being taken up by more than one person on a node and at the amount they priced it at this was, in most cases, going to be unlikely.

I believe BT Business offer FTTPoD (where available) but expect to pay an arm and a leg for it - you would need to call them up to find out more. Also might be worth PM'ing Plusnet staff member 'Dave Tomlinson' to see if Plusnet are still offering FoD as a trial:
