I don't think that is entirely the case. When FTTPoD is ordered BT will install a fibre node close to the property and then a final tail from that node to the property itself. Everything up to the node is shared. The idea being that they take a loss on the first install but that subsequent installs are cheaper for BT because they only have to install the final tails.

However, that very much relies on it being taken up by more than one person on a node and at the amount they priced it at this was, in most cases, going to be unlikely.

It appears Spectrum only offer FTTPoD where they have their own network (South Wales & SW England) & I very much doubt it that Spectrum are going to install their network from Land's End all the way up to John o'Groats.

I believe BT Business offer FTTPoD (where available) but expect to pay an arm and a leg for it - you would need to call them up to find out more. Also might be worth PM'ing Plusnet staff member 'Dave Tomlinson' to see if Plusnet are still offering FoD as a trial:
