Hi
Does anyone know of any news about this? I am in one of the few areas still marked as coming soon (or exploring solutions) under the super fast extension programme.
There used to be a map and postcode list showing areas and timescales - these have now been removed.
Their response to emails is almost non existent. It seems to be complete radio silence at the moment.
Does anyone have any news on whats happening?
Thanks
Huw

The SEP project seems to be delivering cabinets, some counties do go radio silent as budgets are jiggled and the person doing the site/social media is sent elsewhere.

Yup
Thats the one - I am chasing clarity on my particular area. I am connected to the Benington exchange which is all EO lines but is supposedly 'coming soon'.
When the postcode and map were up I was just outside the area on the map and not on the postcode list.
However, if an FTTC cab were installed anywhere between me and the exchange I would see some benefit (2k line from the exchange). Getting some idea of whats going to happen and when would be great. The only communication I have had is that Benington is due in 2017 and my postcode is in the last 2%.

Codelook has Benington down for 2 cabinets, P1 and E_1. The first is "being connected", due March 2017, the second is being designed, due October 2017. Both subsidised by the SEP project.
Unfortunately, Codelook tends to give sparse details, if any, related to EO line upgrades.
Cabinet P1 looks like it serves Hebing End. Can't tell anything about E_1, but it wouldn't surprise me for this to serve Benington itself.

E_1 is NOT a cabinet but an identifier for a bundle of EO lines

Thanks for looking!
Thats some great info - Hebing End is right by the exchange so presumably cab right outside. The other one would be nearer the centre of Benington (i'd hope!) That would put me at around 1km from the cab. Should be better then 8 meg.
Is this the codelook website?
https://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htm
I've looked there before but couldn't get that informations out?

Edit: found it here:

I'm right by exchange 5.

It looks like the cab in Hebing End should be in place and in the process of being connected. I'll check this over the weekend.
I believe my phone line would run through the second proposed cab in Benington despite not being on the official postcode list. Is there a way of verifying this? I've not been able to fully trace where my line goes as its underground part of the way.
Thanks

Oh ye of little faith:
https://s24.postimg.org/ivqp2ylwl/CL_Benington.png
My best guess is that sometimes an EO-CuRe (Copper Rearrangement) puts a new PCP as the next in the sequence of P numbers. But sometimes it ends up as "cabinet E_n" instead.
That is, at least, in codelook. It might be temporary, until a P number gets allocated.
|
|
|
I have lots of faith and believe me, that will not be cabinet E_1 once its live.

Agreed, I have seen a block of EO Lines, say EO Block 7 consisting of several post codes get moved over to either an all in one or two separate cabinets, they are temporary assigned a Node ID of E_7 to match the EO Block number and when they get to connecting them up and then testing it was assigned a permanent Node ID.
This was what I have seen several times now, twice on my exchange as well as part of LEP.
*** update ***
In WWWombat example Cabinet E_1 is catering for postcodes on EO Block 1 shown below:
[EO Block 1]
SG2 7JD
SG2 7JE
So I assume it will be a small cabinet or maybe other EO Blocks will be moved over to it later.
But I am thinking that cabinet will be assigned a Node ID of P2 later on.
Lets hope they are smart where they locate the cabinet or else nobody on it will be able to get fibre.
BTW the exchange is here which is smaller than my shed BTW , so going by the two postcodes which are far from it and the route to join them would be long.

So is it going to be a cabinet? Is it going to be a separate cabinet from P1?
If so, then we're talking about a cabinet with an unknown identity that, for the sake of argument, we might as well call *something* for now. What better to call it the same name than Codelook is using?
|
|
|
So I assume it will be a small cabinet or maybe other EO Blocks will be moved over to it later.
Yeah, that's what I assume.
But there's no point in discussing a cabinet listed on Codelook and using a name that is different from the name used there. Not until it gets a proper name.

Agreed, else it would lead to confusion.

Separate cabinet from P1 otherwise would be called P1 already
As to what another site calls it, down to them, maybe unknown new cabinet

I just did a quick bit of searching and found cabinet P1. I had assumed all lines on this exchange were EO - I was wrong. I guess it also explains why this was done first!
I'm guessing enabling a cab that already exists is a lot easier than rearranging a bunch of EO lines.
If they are only putting 1 cabinet in I would assume they would try and include as many EO lines as possible - the logical conclusion there would be a cabinet right outside the exchange?
If that is the case here then there is going to be a lot of sub 24Mbps lines on it.
Or I guess they might just place it so that some EO lines get maximum benefit and sod the rest?

My bet is one at exchange, and ideally one more in Clay End and another in Wood End but all depends on targets of the project

I guess if the only *known* proposition is that the EO line is going to be bundled into a cabinet, then we don't know that until we do know of a separate cabinet identity.
If, as you argue, the "E_1" nomenclature indicates merely that it is an EO bundle being subsumed into a cabinet, then we cannot be sure it is a separate, new cabinet, unless, well we get something out of the next answer...
As to what another site calls it, down to them, maybe unknown new cabinet
I only know of two places to look up all cabinet identities, especially without searching all postcodes on the OR or BTW websites: The Openreach "secret" list (sometimes leaked), and the Codelook website. Without access to the former, there's only the latter to go on.
We can get past that limitation iff someone publishes a postcode and some OR/BTW lookup information.
Unless, of course, TBB are about to publish some of their secret postcode/cabinet data?
Unless and until that happens, we're left with grubbing at whatever sources we can use. As I'm talking to people with access to nothing more than the same tools I have (ie *not* the secret list), then the best point of contact is to use the same naming convention.
Snide comments to people who have no choice but to converse this way aren't helpful.
Edit:
I did have a scraper that could run from a set of postcodes to a set of cabinets, much like Paul Kirby's tool. BT's mechanisms to bar it made it relatively useless without a rewrite (or a pool of outbound IPs). I've yet found sufficient impetus to work around BT's blocking ... so, for now, work with the rather limited tools where BT choose to hide their network (that is, admittedly, of critical national importance).

Only reason for highlighting that cabinet would NOT be called is E_1 is because others will find E_2 etc mentioned and may mean that they are going to get a cabinet...
No snide intentions

In the last few days my postcode has gone from "Exploring Solutions", which I read to mean not happening to "In Scope".
Hopefully this either means they will be siting that cabinet somewhere useful or they have decided to put more cabinets out.
Codelook doesn't seem have been updated.
Hopefully I'm not reading too much in to this but I assume that means that I should now get Fibre Broadband at somepoint in the not to distant future?
I'm guessing this has nothing to do with the clawback money just announced (re-announced)

Nothing to do with the clawback news today directly as that is too new to have changed anything yet.
Though remember the money today is not all new so projects have been announcing clawback use since 2015 and it may be that one of those or a phase II project has firmed up where it will deliver now
EO work has always had a tendency to only be announced later on in the various projects

OK, Good point. It could raise false expectations
Interesting that, when looking at codelook, it shows "Exchange 4" (and 5, 6 and 8), but the URL for examining them ends in "X_E_4" (and 5, 6 and 8). There is no entry for "Exchange 1". But if you manually alter the URL to end "X_E_1" you find some postcodes. So something is making Codelook hide the EO bundle & postcodes.

That's exactly how I got the 2 postcodes that I posted.
I think codelook does this to get it ready for the change, also codelook isn't perfect, it still says I cannot get fibre and I have had FTTP for about month, even though codelook has updated their system recently, maybe it will on their next update.

Hopefully as we head in to early 2017 the information about this new cabinet should firm up (I hope!) and more information will become available.
Codelook seems to imply that from 9 months out is a good marker.

Hopefully we get to see what Node ID it gets given, I assume it will be 2 or maybe 3, they seem to put in gaps in the Node ID's.
But only time will tell.

So a bit of news:
Roadworks has 3 separate dates showing work right outside the exchange.
2 on the 18th - 20th Jan and another on 13th Feb - 13th March.
The first two of them have the following as the description:
Install 1x 100m of fibre cable into existing duct
the second lot in Feb has:
Install 12x 100m of fibre cable into existing duct.
Now I wonder if this is for a cabinet to be placed there or if its work ongoing for the P1 cabinet in Hebing End (although I wouldn't have thought the fibre for that would terminate at this exchange as its so small).
Also - the second lot of work - a month seems a long time to install the a fibre cable. Is it possible a placeholder for other work?
Thanks

Codelook now showing a new cabinet P2. Cabinet E_1 still showing.
P2 is currently FTTC doing Field Survey, live due by October 2017
E_1 is FTTC doing Design, live due by October 2017
Does that mean its likely there will be more than 1 other cabinet?

Without knowing what codelook are doing and their source data and how they merge updates hard to say for sure.
But will state have never seen a PCP with a E_1 name, there are some E1, E2 names but these are distinctly different to the E_1, E_2 names.
E_1 etc is referring to bundles of EO lines.

I see two cabinets for your exchange:
Cabinet 1 - Connect - 4 Months
Cabinet 2 - Field Survey - 9 Months
|
|

Correct - I'd forgotten about P1 as its down the south end of the village
Question is - will there be a P1, P2 and whatever E_1 becomes or is P2 actually what E_1 has become?
So 3 cabs in total or two?
Annoyingly I can't find which route my line takes back to the exchange as this would have a big impact on line length to the cab. Its goes underground about 300m from my house.
|
|
|

There are quite a few EO lines - E_1, E_5, E_6 and E_8.
Looks like just the two cabinets planned for the exchange.

I think it is safe to say that Codelook doesn't handle transitions very well. When copper re-arrangement is going on, the data loses some of its consistency ... Previously, we've seen it happen with postcode data, but perhaps now we'll see it more with cabinet data as the projects start to do more an more infill.
It would be safest to assume, for now, that there will be 2 cabs, and that cab P2 and cab E_1 are going to be the same thing.
My working assumption (even with the earlier argument in this thread) is that a cabinet named "E_1" has been given that name as a temporary label, generated (at some point) from thinking that it will be providing infill for EO bundle 1.
I make no further assumption about how/whether/when the name becomes a permanent one; there has been too little indication of that.
P2 looks like it covers the postcodes for EO bundle 4 and EO bundle 5, if codelook is right, but doesn't say it covers EO bundle 1.
But looking at the map of postcodes, P2 coverage goes right up to the EO bundle 1 area. I conclude that it could end up as infill for EO bundle 1, but doesn't quite have the postcodes right yet. Or it might not.

Roadworks.org has just been updated so I guess it answers the question as to the cab number and its location:
Location:
(PCP2) OPPOSITE 55, TOWN LANE
Description:
Install 1m of 1 way power duct in Footway,Install 8m of 1 way poly duct in Footway,Performing an 1excavation to expose existing power cable in Footway,Provide, Renew or Recover 1 DSLAM street cabinet and base
So.. right outside the cab. That will put my line length as a shade over 2km. Wont be 'superfast' but should be an improvement on what I've got now.
Connected counties did say to me in an email that they were aiming for 100% super fast coverage (no time scale) so maybe I will see another cab closer to my address later on.
Hopefully vectoring is enabled on this cab from the go.

Curious - its gone from roadworks.org but the one about installing fibre cable in to a duct at the same time is still there...
I wonder if there has been a change of plans.
I went to have a look at the proposed location out side the exchange over the weekend. I didn't see any markings on the floor for the location of the cab.
