Line dead

[link to this post]

Hi. My phone and Broadband have been off for a few hours. There was an openreach van and guy working up the pole earlier, and i'm wondering what might have happened

Might be unconnected or might be that whilst working on another line they have unwittingly caused an issue with yours. It might get resolved (ie they might be working on something and once they've done it your line might come back) or you log a call. If it's been a few hours I would probably log a call if it was me.

Is the line dead in the test socket?

+ 1

If the engineer was up the stick, and youve got nowt now, ring your voice provider and have them test the line/ask Openreach to come fix it.

How fast was it before? Can you post the stats from the router? Do you have any audible noise on the line?

Also worth giving the modem a single restart just to make sure a low sync is not the result of it reconnecting while the line was still being fiddled with

it was 70/20 before, quite a lot of the higher tones are gone in dslstats, and attenuation is doubled

Downstream Upstream
Line attenuation (dB): 38.1 0.0
Signal attenuation (dB): Not available on VDSL2
Connection speed (kbps): 14290 5768
SNR margin (dB): 5.5 6.2
Power (dBm): 5.6 5.6
Interleave depth: 281 1

Max: Upstream rate = 6017 Kbps, Downstream rate = 15764 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 5768 Kbps, Downstream rate = 14290 Kbps

There is no dial tone at all. Logic would tell me one of the pair has been disconnected?
