What is the likely rural broadband solution

[link to this post]

Does anyone know what the likely solution will be for rural broadband where properties are already connected to a VDSL enabled cabinet but are too far for reliable service?

Just curious as we are in such a position about 3km from GREAT DUNMOW Cabinet 12.

I was able to migrate our service from BT ADSL to PlusNet VDSL in December and we went from a very unreliable 3-5mpbs ADSL (resets several times a week at best and sometimes days at a time with no service) to a very reliable 3-4mbps VDSL (no resets except for power cuts since December). Curiously I just did a look up on BT Wholesale and it says I should only get 1mbps which is obviously very wrong. I have no idea why that went down but fortunately it was after I ordered otherwise I suspect I would not have been allowed to do so, it was showing 3-5 at the time for VDSL.

Superfast Essex say that there will be a rural broadband solution some time in 2019 for our area and I was just curious what type of solution is it likely to be and whether I will need to do anything to switch the line to shorter one. I'm guessing some kind of combi cabinet nearer our house but will I need to get our line switched to a card in that cabinet or will that be done automatically as they build out the solution?

Suggests part of the Gigaclear roll-out between now and Dec 2019 with estimate of Oct 2019. So you gain 50 Mbps to Gigabit full fibre options.

So you will need to switch services.

Thanks, I didn't realise that Gigaclear means full fibre necessarily (is that documented anywhere?}.

So I can expect fibre to be laid to all the homes in my area (or at least to an aggregation point nearby) and I will be able to opt for FTTP?

That will be novel :}

Gigaclear ONLY do full fibre

They pass the home putting a small pot in the ground on the boundary of the property, and for install the basic £100 buys you the cable and you run it to your house yourself or you pay more and their contractor will run the fibre cable from the pot into the house. If you order while they working in the area the install is often cheaper, i.e. saves them having to make the trip especially.

So yes looks like FTTP
