Do these stats indicate a fault?

[link to this post]

Hi folks.

I've recently upgraded from 38Mbps FTTC to 76Mbps after my ISP offered me a deal for sticking with them. However despite the changeover happening 5 days ago, I don't seem to be achieving anything faster than I was before.

My line length is approx 750m from the DSLAM. I'm on the furthest DP from that particular cab frustratingly, despite the actual distance as the crow flies being only a third of that. The BTW checker shows a speed estimate of 54Mbps, however the BTW performance test shows an IP profile of 37Mbps.

I've had a look at the router stats, and I'm seeing a noise margin of 6.2 / 5.9 and an attenuation of 30.1 / 20.3. I'm connected directly to the master socket with no extensions fitted and nothing else plugged in. I know that with the line length I'm never going to see amazing stats, but they still look rather poor. Are these stats typical for a line of this length, or could there be a fault somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

Need to see the connection figures too, as attenuation and noise margin figures without those are not much use

Just based on the information you have provided I would say that your ISP has conned you into staying with them as with that line length you aren't going to get any higher speed than you were already getting.

I'm surprised to see an estimate that high with a line length of 750m, I suspect your line is not as windy as you think. Maybe your ISP simply hasn't requested the upgrade from Openreach.

have you restarted the router since the line was 'upgraded'. else it will still be on the old sync.

With an IP Profile of 37Mb and SNRM of 6.2dB, they sync in the low 40's. The ISP should never have allowed them to upgrade package.

Also those estimates look perfectly normal to me for the distance.

I'm synced at 49Mb on a 1012m long line.

That's nonsense. A product regrade initiates an automatic resync.

if you was not getting 40mb sync, paying for 80 service is still going to get you 37mb you had before

same on upload unless you was on a a 40/2 profile as your now on 80/20 but your cable can only do 37 down and most likely less than 8-10mb up) unless you move house or get virgin or FTTP (in that order) unlikely it will ever change
