FTTPoD Install Time

[link to this post]

Morning All

Could anyone shed any light on the rough timescales of events following certain points of installation? We placed an order with Cerberus on 3 October 2017 and BT are only just getting around to the 'jointing' phase of which Roadworks.org says is scheduled in for the August bank holiday. Is this near to the end?!

Thanks all!

Yep, once jointing is completed then you're close to going live. See my FTTPoD install feedback here:

My Fluidone FTTPoD install experience

I'm guessing you have a complex install as its taken ~ 10 months so far? Mine took less than 4 months but it was a straight forward build. Considering some installs were taking as long as 2 years back in 2014-2015, i think anything less than 12 months isn't too bad these days.

Thanks both, that's good to hear! Thank you for that link also, most helpful. Very jealous of your 4 month install!

Our install hasn't been too complicated but as it's involved lane closures on an 'A' road, the council have required 3 months notice from OR before sanctioning the works. OR also seem to be incapable of realising that they could do tasks together I.E they laid the ducting with one closure, then once completed, another for cabling, then another for the jointing works.

To me it would make sense to request a closure for say 2 weeks and do it all then rather than multiple times over several months...

AFAIK Openreach utilise/borrow staff from their other FTTP projects for FTTPoD builds and as they cannot predict where such builds will take place, they cannot do FTTPoD tasks all in one go. Unlike commercial/BDUK FTTP builds which are often planned years in advance and are allocated manpower resources accordingly.
