Hi all
I am getting now tv on a rolling 30 day contract how are the speeds for people using them I know it varies exchange to exchange but just a general look at them especially peak times
Thanks

According to my SamKnows whitebox, I am getting the same level of D/L & U/L throughput speeds as I was getting on Sky Fibre for the past 6 years and no noticeable issues at peak times.

FTTC doesn't really vary exchange by exchange very much.
It entirely depends on the distance between you and the cabinet.
What estimate did Now TV give you? Have you had FTTC previously?
You will get the same sync speed between different ISP's once DLM has settled the line.

Only reason I ask is when I had talktalk I lost 57meg speed during peak times but not with BT so TT backhaul was bad at my exchange..
Don't recall but when I searched the checker I could get 80 as the cab is about 50 yards or so away I opted for the fab fiber upto 38 so I should get 38 or there abouts

That's definitely not the norm.
My 2 1/2 years on Talktalk I got full throughput 24/7.
A little slow down at peak is expected for budget ISP's but nothing to that extent.
I've never come across such bad congestion on Sky's network I would expect you to get a very similar experience as with BT.
I would also expect Talktalk to have made upgrades at your exchange since then if it was that bad.

Yea the area I lived in was id say more a budget area so I'd expect they ISP'S to be hammered..
This was little over a year ago.. And when on the exchange I'm moving to my parents got talktalk equally as bad at peak times.. But a friend over on the other side of the city talktalk was and still is perfect for him.
Yea so hopefully i get good speeds would be happy with a drop to 25 in peak times if I get any
Here was the worst test I had

One of the things that I have always liked about Sky Broadband since I first switched to them in 2007 (and hence NOW Broadband to whom I switched this year) is their own national core network, which (from various documents and presentations that I've seen) seems to be quite impressive in terms of current and planned future capacity. Of course, I suppose it's going to have to be so, given Sky's plans for delivering Sky Q via the internet.

Very true.. But my thoughts were plusnet are the same company as bt or own them but from what I read 2 different experiences

I'm not certain but I think NowTV uses all the same infrastructure as Sky it is just sold under different model. PlusNet have pretty much their own infrastructure for all the back end services and so are essentially a completely separate ISP from BT.
So, with PlusNet you can (and do) get a completely different experience. With NowTV the technical experience should be the same as Sky.

That makes sense thanks

You are correct re Sky & NOW TV.

Confirmed... When there was a recent outage I received text message status updates from Sky, despite being on a Now TV contract.
Getting back to the speed.... I'm on the Fab Fibre package, which is advertised as an average of 36 Mbps and I was getting about 37-38 until recently. The other day when I got up in the morning I didn't have an internet connection, and the router automatically redirected me to its home connection pages asking what kind of BT socket I was using, getting me to asking me to unplug the cables to the micro-filters wait, plug them back in etc.... I knew there was nothing wrong with my home set-up but went along with it anyway. At the end of the process, it reconnected me and the speed test gives me 53 -54 Mbps and it has been stable at that value ever since. It seems that they have upgraded the connection and made me go through the same set-up palava that you have for a new connection.
I'm not complaining but has anyone else had this upgrade? I'm on the Watford Exchange

Sky recently dropped Sky Fibre Unlimited (the up to 36Mbps service) and are upgrading their existing customers in certain areas to Sky Fibre Max (the up to, I think, 63Mbps service) free of charge.
Maybe NOW TV is doing the same? Fab Fibre here too, so will keep an eye on my connection with great interest to see if same happens here!

My daughter has had the same email from SKY

Hello Joanne,
Great news! We're upgrading our network, area by area, to bring you Fibre Max with faster average speeds of 63Mbps at no extra monthly cost.
What happens next?
These upgrades start in December and run through to spring. During this time, you will be moved automatically from Fibre Unlimited with an average download speed of 36Mbps, to Fibre Max with an average speed of 63Mbps. That's 75% faster and you don't need to do anything.

MASSIVE CAUTION
If you are not already nailing 36 Mbps you are not going to see any benefit, the wording of this email unless very carefully targeted is going to cause them more trouble long term than good will.

Perhaps I should have kept quiet. It is back to the original speed today.
