FTTP availability - checker says no, on-street hardware yes.

[link to this post]

Hi,
I'm on the Bristol south exchange. All the houses on the street are fed by poles, and most have FTTC available.

In the last 2 months, every ~3rd pole in the streets nearby has had a cylindrical fibre manifold installed, and every single pole has had a 12 port fibre connector attached to the top. Some of the poles are linked by fibres between the manifold pole and the neighbours, but as yet no houses are served.

However, the fibre checker says there is no FTTP available in the area, not any plans to provide it

Any thoughts? Someone is spending cash to put this infrastructure on the poles...so seems odd there are no plans apparently to make use of it.....

Maybe because they've installed the hardware but haven't activated it yet. Hardware present doesn't necessarily mean that it will be live straight away.

I have seen the same situation in Cardiff, I have an occasional glance at the checker to see if they will be a G.Fast/FTTP sites like the one Andrew spotted and published as a news item.

I think there will be more of these than people expect from the ones I have spotted, they have surprised me as I too didn't expect G.Fast/FTTP overlays to co-exist. ( Mainly in well off areas with pockets that cannot get G.Fast). I had highlighted the possibility to Andrew but was waiting for a live appearance on the checker to confirm the reality. Your spot increases the likelihood of more of them around!

Doesnt mean the fibre cables are connected or the headend is available yet. Seeing the kit may still mean another 6 months + until availability shows. I assume this is the fibre cities rollout in Bristol.
