Is the HH6 mis-reporting Data Sent?

[link to this post]

While I am waiting for BT to sort out my account being changed to ADSL instead of my previous VDSL package, I noticed an oddity in the HH6 Technical Log. I saw a huge value for Data Sent.

See here... http://www.dcoffey.co.uk/images/misc/Uploaded.jpg

The key parts are as follows...

Data Rate : 448Kbps
DSL Uptime : 1 day 12 hours 46 minutes
Data Sent : 8690MB

Am I getting the maths right?

448Kbps divide by 8 is 56 kilobytes per second
Times 3600 is 201600 kilobytes per hour or 196.875 Megabytes per hour

The HH6 reports 8690MB uploaded since DSL Link uptime
At 196.875 megabytes per hour that would take 44 hours and 8 minutes

The modem has only been on for under 37 hours. A lot of that time the PC has been asleep.

Resource Monitor does not show anything coming from the PC beyond a few KB per second.

I assume it is mis-reporting?

Could be a bug.
Could be that the data sent total is for the Hubs total uptime and not just the DSL uptime, which could be much longer.

It's not a device I've ever (or would ever) used. It was listed and successfully sold on eBay the day it arrived at my property.

I only kept it as a backup device and I am glad I did because when they mistakenly put me on ADSL last week instead of rolling me back to my 40/2 VDSL package, my Zyxel could not connect anymore.

I was only checking my sync speed because the connection was intolerably slow for YouTube use and spotted that upload value. Of course I then had to check it and my system in case there was an issue.

I suspect the raw stats are missing the decimal point.

They may be in units of 100th of a Mb or 1000th so the decimal point should be 86.90MB or 8.96MB

This is far too common with raw stats on electronic devices and the displays are not always corrected .

I saw it all the time with Core and edge router stats due to the decimal point not being in the raw stats. Any Management system had to insert it in the correct place, it was the most frequent error I spotted when testing/developing network management systems.

It arises because at the deepest code levels computers do not have the decimal point at all, but work in unitary amounts. .
