TalkTalk faster fibre speed boost

I have renewed my contract today and got a discount on the faster fibre speed boost and the new Wi-fi hub should arrive in a few days, my router is showing a link rate of 9994/39999 Kbps is this because i am on a capped package or is this the fastest i am likely to get, my current speeds seem to vary between 24 and 30 Mbps.

The 39999 suggests modem is hitting the capped speed of the 40/10 product, if you just upgraded to Fibre boost today then once the order is complete you might see it change

Assuming when you say speeds vary 24 to 30 Mbps you are talking about speed test results

Thanks, Yes those are speed test results taken with the TBB test and the 9994/39999 is always the same, is there a way of finding out what the maximum my line is likely to achieve?

Yep, sounds like you're on a 40/10 package. Have a look in your router stats for "attainable speed" and you may see what you could get by paying a bit more.

I cannot find "attainable speed" its the D-Link 3782 Super Router if thats any help these are the only figures i can find.


SNR Margin: 15.6 dB / 19.8 dB

Line Attenuation: 0.1 dB / 10.4 dB

Output Power: 5.4 dbm / 5.0 dbm

Data Rate: 9994 kbps / 39999 kbps

Your SNR margin suggests the full 80Mb would be achievable.

Ways to find out...

1. Max attainable figure from modem
2. BT Wholesale checker gives a set of speed range figures (use address option)
3. What speeds did TalkTalk give you as an estimate for the boost

Thanks j0hn83 i have read a few moans about the boost speed being little better than the original non boosted speed so i am glad to read this i guess as is usually the case people often moan about a service but rarely post when things are better than expected.

I will post my speed test tomorrow in case others are thinking of taking up this offer.

1 - Cannot find it (see earlier post)

2 - Could you post a link as i can only find the BT speed check.

3 - It was online chat i think they said max 63 Mbps but i don't think they gave an estimate, they did say i can cancel within 30 days if not happy with the speed.
