Good afternoon all.
Longtime lurker here, I wonder if anyone could shed some light on my situation?
My wife and I recently moved to a house in a Norfolk village (Mattishall) and I am currently unable to order fibre, despite my cabinet and local exchange being fibre enabled. Prior to its recent update the BT 'when can i get fibre' checker returned "your cabinet is fibre enabled but engineering work etc etc...".
Frustratingly, the BT engineer who visited to enable the ADSL which I must use in the interim told me that the previous owners had fibre connected, and that he had to actually remove the property from the fibre setup in the cabinet/exchange and reconnect it to ADSL (i am not clear on the exact details of this). The previous owner has since told me that they synced at 80/20.
I am fortunate in that the cabinet is just around the corner (literally), so I am currently syncing at 24/1.3, which I believe is more or less the max ADSL can deliver. I am aware that this alone means I am more fortunate than many who live in rural locations, but I am still finding the drop in speed (particularly upload) to be irritating!
Having had a nose around on Roadworks.org I see that there is some work happening on the roads south of the property, that is associated with BT works, so I assume this is related. The info there is limited but it seems to be the addition of new routing and fibre.
Upon originally checking with BT (after the interminable two week wait for a response) I was told that fibre orders are on hold whilst "work is done to add more properties to the cabinet". Initially this was quoted as being due to be completed by mid-March, and having sought an update more recently I am now told that this is mid July. I assume this is just the data being pulled from the wholesale checker, which I believe gives quarterly updated dates.
With all this in mind, my questions are, is there any way to find out more information about what exactly is happening in terms of what BT are actually doing, why it prevents me from ordering Fibre, and if there is any way to find out a more accurate time-frame than the vague estimates which BT have offered previously?
Details:
Mattishall exchange (EAMTS)
Cabinet P9
Thank you in advance for anything offered.
