BT GFast ordered but need modem only

Hi,

Please may I ask advice from you clever people out there?

I currently have BT Broadband's Superfast Fibre 2 (80/20).
I'm using an HG612 modem feeding into an ASUS RT-AC88U AC3100 8 port router.

I have recently ordered Ultrafast Fibre as my cabinet now supports GFast.
I understand that BT will be sending me yet another SmartHub for use with the GFast.

Can this SmartHub be used as a modem only or is there any way of obtaining an MT992 GFast modem from BT instead?

If not and I manage to buy an MT992 somewhere, will I be able to use it from the off or will it need flashing with special firmware or something?

Have you seen the price of MT992? Might be worth asking BT.

The BT SmartHub can't be used as a modem only.
It provides some limited stats.

The Huawei MT992 provides zero stats and cost an arm and a leg.

There are a couple Zyxel models that will work in modem only mode.
They provide full statistics and likely cheaper than an MT992

AAISP are testing 1 of the Zyxel models and have sold a couple.

Ask A&A they do these VDSL2/G.fast modem router ZyXEL XMG3927-B50A cost £153.98 inc postage.
