FTTP in G.Fast area

[link to this post]

Good evening,

I live in an Openreach Fibre First city. According to their map, my address and indeed the area falls within their yellow (to indicate work is to be begin within 3 months), highlighting. I entered my postcode and address into the Openreach checker, and the feedback is no plans to upgrade my area yet. I entered a different address, just down the road and out of the same cabinet, and the feedback is fibre is coming to your area soon.

Our cabinet is a G.Fast cabinet in fact the whole area is pretty well covered by G.Fast. Out of curiosity I looked into this further and came up with: any G.Fast addresses that have speeds or capable of receiving speeds (according to the BT Wholesale checker) that exceed the available Fibre on demand speeds seem to feedback with fibre is not coming to your area yet. Addresses that have G.Fast and those, of course that don't have G.Fast that fall below the Fibre on Demand speeds feedback with fibre is coming to your area soon.

My question is: because I am currently getting 330/50 will I miss out on the current roll out for our area, even though other addresses out my cabinet and addresses surrounding mine are included in the current plans? Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks for any help you give.

Fibre on Demand is not standard FTTP - it is a custom built FTTP solution potentially costing £1000's

Is that your enquiry or is this about the change of standard FTTP at the usual prices appearing? Shows as WBC FTTP Available.

Some areas with G.fast are getting standard FTTP rolled out to them, and it is can be those with maximum speeds and it can be those on the fringe of cabinet areas, or some combination of both. In short there is no hard and fast rule.

Hi, thank you for responding. I'm sorry for the confusion. My area is scheduled for FTTP rollout, well, at least starting within the next few months. I currently have G.Fast at maximum speed 330/50. I have a neighbor who lives about 200 feet from my house. They, too, have G.Fast, running out of the same cabinet as me, but their speed is much slower. According to Openreach, they are due for FTTP soon. My address is not.

I've noticed that any address that receives or is capable of receiving speeds near the max for G.Fast are not included in the Fibre rollout.

I didn't know if it was an Openreach database issue that excludes addresses capable of receiving max speeds.

I've checked multiple addresses all over the city to confirm my suspicions and every single address capable of top G.Fast speeds are excluded from the rollout.

Anyway, I was just curious if Openreach excluded addresses that are currently getting ultrafast speeds so they can meet their 2021 target.

No, there is lots of FTTP overbuilding G.Fast, particularly in Fibre First areas.

You'll also find addresses with no G.Fast that aren't getting FTTP as well as those with high G.Fast estimates who are getting FTTP.

The Fibre First roll-outs which is what you probably are can be patchy affairs and arrive in phases, so you may be missing from the plan and get added at a later date.

Have seen plenty of addresses with full speed G.fast also get FTTP built on top.

So no systematic exclusion of excludes addresses capable of receiving max speeds.

Thank you for all of the information. I'm about 110m from the aggregation node and 7 or 8 other houses would be passed to reach mine, so perhaps the bean counters for Openreach can not justify the cost in running the fibre.

Anyway, I'll wait and see. Thank you again.
