Time to free up ONT for new FTTP service

[link to this post]

We're switching from Zen FTTP -> BT FTTP.

BT say we can't migrate FTTP service "ADSL-style", so we're on a two-month wait list to have a multi-port ONT installed by an Openreach engineer. (I'm sure it's a plug-and-play thing, but BT say Opeanreach will not just send out a new ONT without an engineer), but they can remotely provision the new service if we cease the existing FTTP to free up the only ONT port.

We ceased the existing FTTP on 28th (over a week ago), and still getting status ONT exists with active service. No spare ports are available.

Does anyone have any estimate how long FTTP should take to cease & free up the ONT port?

Thanks smile

Usually within 24 hours. Have you asked Zen if their cease order is still open?

I did ask Zen about this. All they replied is to confirm my account is now closed.

I will email them again to confirm the FTTP has been ceased with Openreach.

You might just have to wait for the database to be updated, how long that could take I don't know.

From personal experience with a four port ONT and ceasing one FTTP connection with Zen, it took nearly four weeks for the OR database to show a spare port available,

I do not know where the delay was. I do not think Zen were holding things up - their system showed completed, but at the time it didn't cause me any problems.

Hopefully it will clear quicker than that for you.

Are you saying all 4 ports on your ONT had live services at one stage? As that's the only scenario where the BT/Openreach checker wouldn't show port availability on a 4 port ONT.

We currently have a 1-port ONT & (BT are saying) there is a 2 month wait for a new 4-port ONT install.

We opted to cease the existing service to free up the 1-port ONT, but now we're stuck with no service & no free ONT port.

Probably a database error then. I suggest emailing Mr S (Andrew) and politely asking him if he can get Openreach to fix the database error. Send him a box of chocolates as a thank you smile
