Trying to get FTTC - But local area at capacity

Hi All

For the past 6-8 months (prior the pandemic) I've been trying to get a backup internet circuit installed at home, my main provider is Virgin.

Unfortunately it seems the local cabs or exchange must be at capacity, as all I ever get offered is ADSL2+ (12Mb/1Mb) which is pretty atrocious in this day (especially when I spend my days on Video calls). I've even tried contacting Zen, who have previously worked miracles for me, again, all they could offer was the ADSL.

I saw some details on this forum (posted some time back) that mentioned OpenReach offers a "Waiting List" program, does anybody know which ISP's participate in this? Or any other advise?

Yes, Zen. But you'll need to do what I did and take an ADSL service first. Tell them you really want FTTC and you'll take ADSL if they put you on the wait list. I only had to wait a month or two. I guess they won't put you on the list if you're not a customer.

BTW if your ADSL 12Mb that's not as bad as I had at ~3.5Mb and we were still able to stream Netflix.

Do you get "waiting list" if you plumb your details in to this?

What cab is it?

The down speed is liveable, but I work with a lot of remote systems and spend my life on Google Meet, so 1Mb upload simply would not cut it (We find that with our VPN solution, we only get 50-70% of the line speed, so that would mean I'd get 500-700Kbp/s upload).

On Zen, the response I got is, they can't help.. I've asked them twice about the waiting list, the person who has responded doesn't even acknowledge it exists

Hi

You say you just want the extra circuit as backup. Is this in case the Virgin circuit fails, in which case ADSL might not be ideal but would keep you going until Virgin fix the fault? Or are you trying to bond the circuits?
