So near..... So far

Well today was the day I was meant to be getting my FTTP connection from BT and it gets off to a bumpy start.

1) they cut off the internet in the middle of the night. It's okay, I have a backup connection but lots of my IOT devices threw a hissy fit because their connection wasn't set to failover

2) All of the old trunking seems like it's been welded to the house... takes ages to remove. The previous installer used wrong size screws and everything to fix it onto the house.

3) We suddenly notice that the landline was cut off. It happened after the engineer got there.

4) Ducting... lovely ducting. Lots of nasty blockages but it gets from my house to the house next door about 40-50m away after a lot of wiggling and swearing. We're 100m or so from the main road on a private road with 3 houses on. I'm at the end and I've got to clear the rest of the ducts The guy didnt seem pleased at the distance but was up for the challenge.

5) Now the fun begins... at a manhole where the cables join up it gets stuck and doesn't want to go the final 50m or so to the road. It gets ALMOST there..... So close you can hear the pole almost getting into the next manhole but no luck it just jams up with sediment.

6) They pull back the snake and I advise the guy to run some blue rope so the next time they can pull it through a bit easier... good!

6) Try rodding from the other side and nothing Seems to go in half way but no further. This means that from one side we got ALMOST to the road but the other way it seemed to just push stuff back

7) Because all of the rodding could damage other services they decide to call it quits

I ask - So, will you be sticking a camera in there to check? - 'no'. "what about water jets - 'no'.

They then said "its easier to just dig up the road and we know we'll fix it then!

Glad i've got my 4g connection still running but latency for work applications is horrific

Why did they cut off the connection before connecting the new one? It that because it's a migration of some sort?
I was worried about that sort of thing as my wife depends on the internet for WFH, so I decided against going with any BT group co (as the line was currently EE). So I got a new provisioned FTTP service from Zen, which left the existing line well alone. As luck would have it it wasn't needed as the install was pretty straightforward.

None of this makes much sense. Did you request the existing copper service to be disconnected?

They should have fully rodded and roped the ducts before the day of connection. - especially with such a huge run of unproven (and clearly blocked) duct.

Something is not adding up. Have you called to complain about the indefinite loss of service?

This should be '2 stage', seems a lot of work and risk for the engineers to do on going live day.

Funny what occurs when pushing so very hard for a full fibre roll out innit !

Is the Landline totally dead ie as if the phisical wires have been disconnected, or is there still a dial-tone present? Or any other noise for that matter?

I hope that it will be a simple timely fix.

Are Openreach back office (not the engineers) cutting corners?

Has the OP posted the DSL checker 'FTTP Install Process' and 'Our records show the following FTTP network service information' as that would be of interest.

Have seen a few instances of CP’s ceasing a service provided via the copper line before the fibre based replacement is marked as complete.

I agree that it doesn't make much sense but I requested my broadband to be terminated by plusnet (copper) and move to BT FTTP.
I requested that my telephone line provided by plusnet would be moved to BT.

Whilst the engineer was on site I noticed that the phone had gone dead. Fast forward to today and another openreach engineer visited and confirmed that the cable was removed from the green cabinet 500m away.

They also messed up and instead of transferring my telephone number they gave me a new number so I've got to wait a few weeks for that to transfer over.

The next thing... BT kindly sent me a 4G access point to use - this arrived and they had forgotten to enable it so had to call up and get that sorted.

I've got no idea when they'll be back to sort out the FTTP though

Well I was walking back from the school run this morning and spotted an OR van opposite my driveway and I was greeted by a pleasant chap who was sent to look at the ducts and maybe stick a camera down there.

About half an hour later there was fiber from the road to my house and another half hour later I'm hooked up.

BT don't know about me being on their system but it's all working.

~920 down, 50 up. Seems my hub is one with the 50mb cap vs the 120 so I need to give that a kick later
