Talk Talk Business are running their "Back to Business" promo until 12 July. 3 months free on a 24-month contract. I only know this because I signed up to the offer.

What is your policy on the Fibre Headend 'Cablelinks' when it's missing from the Headend Exchange.

In my case Kcom (not sure) and TTB (have told me ) the cablelinks are missing, you are going to find this problem more and more as the FTTP rollout continues.

Its difficult for me to comment as I'm not sure the details of your issue as each case would be different, however, we presently use Openreach via BTW, so it would fall back to their policies in our case.

Aquiss use BT Wholesale so can use that.

They'll have a checker for each of their wholesale partners and use BTW if that's the only option.

So no problem. Worst case they can just use BT Wholesale just as customers can. AAISP, Zen and others have multiple networks they can use, their own sometimes in the case of Zen.

My 900 Zen service is over BTW, as they had no Cablelink to their own network at that time, my 300 uses their GEA network and own Cablelink.

Building better networks, not just faster ones.

As well as the TTB promo I mentioned, cast an eye over the Cerberus FTTP offerings in the next couple of weeks as they are supposed to be refreshing their price plans. Or so I’ve been led to believe…

The problem is likely to occur less and less as the rollout continues.

Currently Talktalk have GEA Cablelinks in most (if not all) Head-End exchanges, including yours.

The Cablelinks come in 1Gb and 10Gb sizes. Once the cablelink is at capacity a new cablelink needs purchased.
OpenReach also have multiple Layer 2 switches in some Head-Ends.
Some of these L2S are a mix of FTTC & FTTP and some are FTTP only L2S.
A provider needs to buy a cablelink (or multiple cablelinks) for each L2S.

Talktalk may not want to put a 1Gb FTTP customer on 1 of their cablelinks that also serves FTTC customers.
A few high tier FTTP customers could quickly saturate a cablelink.

If there's very little FTTP on a particular Head-End then Talktalk may decide it isn't yet financially viable to purchase a new 10Gb cablelink for that exchange.
On a Fibre First Head-End there will be lots of FTTP and you will probably find the likes of Talktalk have Cablelinks in place.

Just a few years ago a 10Gb cablelink cost around £10k EACH.
They now cost just over £1,000 with a time limited offer (ending next month) on FTTP only L2S GEA Cablelinks costing around £750.

Once FTTP reaches a certain amount of coverage on a Head-End exchange it becomes more economical for a provider to purchase additional 10Gb Cablelinks.
As usage increases there will be a continuous cycle of Cablelinks filling up and more needing purchased, but as FTTP coverage grows the chances of a large CP having no 10Gb links in place becomes lower and lower.

KCom use BT Wholesale GEA Cablelinks, not their own.

I would take what Talktalk tell you about Cablelinks with a pinch of salt.
Initially they told me they weren't on my exchange yet as BT have exclusivity for a set number of years, and then they need to purchase a license.
I do hope that rep was making that up and they aren't trained with that nonsense.

I'm amazed any of their sales staff knew what a GEA cablelink was, unless you asked about a cablelink specifically and were simply told yes they needed 1.
It certainly sounds like that with the answer "the Cablelinks are missing".
I'd be very surprised if Talktalk had no Cablelinks at all on your exchange.

I noticed you were asking about resi VoIP providers in a recent thread.

Out of interest, who did you end up going with or short list on the business FTTP connection?
