OR FTTP rollout skipping only our street

[link to this post]

Currently the best available option for my address (in postcode S104LD) is long-distance FTTC, currently synced at a measly 14 Mb/s down, 0.6 Mb/s up (and frequently dropping the connection). Our local BDUK programme (Superfast South Yorkshire) made improvements to nearby postcodes served by the same long-range cab, either with a new AIO cab or FTTP. After a couple of emails with them, it turns out Openreach erroneously estimated our postcode to be getting speeds over 30 Mb/s, leading to our street being ineligible for the BDUK rollout.

Fast forward to today, our exchange (Ranmoor) was recently announced to be included in Openreach's Full Fibre build programme — of course, our street appears to be excluded from this rollout according to their availability checker (for the time being, at least). Checking dozens of nearby postcodes, almost every other street appears to be part of their plan for their next phase of FTTP rollout, the only exception being ours. What reasons could there be for excluding us from this rollout? It seems strange, especially considering we're the only street remaining for miles with sub-24 Mb/s speeds.

A rough map I've compiled based on various samples: https://i.imgur.com/xW4KNEu.png (red: no plans, orange: in rollout plan, green: already available)

The only thing I can think of is that our property is served by a hollow steel pole rather than a wooden one, which I assume might have a different wiring/mounting system for the CBT? This also applies to another small strip of properties not included (same road, towards the left on the map) — that's the only other steel pole I can find close by, and the only connection I can make. Worth noting that there is a wooden pole for properties further down our street, though they also don't seem to be included in the rollout plan.

If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or information it'd be much appreciated, I'm really out of options having tried contacting dozens of different people, along with various alternative providers (still awaiting a response from Pine Media who are being rather vague as to whether their nearby coverage is an error, from OR's FTTP or their own fibre).

For context/background there is a thread topic on FTTP served from hollow steel poles. There is also a specific distribution block that can be used within certain hollow steel poles that is referred to as the squid.

In terms of getting your issue sorted, it appears that some of the root cause is down to a database error on the part of Openreach. Therefore I think it’s fair play that you write to the CEO, Clive Selley, [removed by tbb] and explain the issue at hand. There is usually quite a responsive team that will deal with your email and hopefully action your issue.

Good luck.

You can email the CEO of Openreach Clive Selley [removed by tbb] and one of the OR exec guys will advise.

My street was skipped due to armoured leads but they came back some months later and done it.

Thanks for the info. Seems it may be possible then, though I suppose it could still be the cause and just delaying it for a good year or so (it'll probably take them that long to deploy the 1st local phase of the rollout to begin with).

I had sent an email to Clive Selley a few weeks back, but I still haven't heard anything (other than a response they sent the day after asking for more info, which I replied to straight away). Hopefully that hasn't got lost, but I can be impatient with these things 😅

At this point I'm probably not even gonna get to use it, I'll likely be moving homes within the next year or so. Would be nice to boost the house price though, I'm sure an unstable 14Mb connection is gonna be a deal-breaker for most. I'm considering moving to Three/Smarty LTE for the time being, seems they've upgraded their network around here since I last checked and I'm now getting 50 Mb/s via 4G.

Might want to give them a gentle reminder nudge that you’re still waiting to hear back.

Good luck with it all.

Aye I'll give em another week or two to get back, don't wanna seem too rude or demanding to the only people who can help me out haha. I'm really sold on going for 4G broadband now though (as long as it's stable), it's almost half the cost of my fibre plan and about 5x the speed.

But anyway thanks mate, I really appreciate the help!
