I can a successful FTTP Community scheme with Openreach. Been loads of work going on over last 6 months but today this box was installed at the front of my property. Does this mean its almost ready? Anyone got any experience of how long it becomes available on the checker once this box is installed?

That is your CSP (customer splice point)
Have you actually ordered already ? Seems odd they would do this if you haven’t.
|
|
|
|
No one has ordered yet, its still unavailable according to the checker.
They have done this today to every house included in the campaign. The engineer said the idea is when you do come to order everything is ready and installation is super quick.

Then that sounds very positive.
Is the installer still in the vicinity ? Could you just ask if it is lit yet ?
If no further detail is forthcoming, just keep checking the availability checker daily.

What did they have against the capping covering the cables up?
|
|
|
|
Sorry what do you mean?
|
|

A bit odd, those CSP’s are designed to fit snugly on top of the 101 capping … leaving little or no cables on show.

Is it the photo or did the engineer leave his spirit level at home??

A very poor installation, the box is too high so the cables are exposed and rather wonky, i.e. not level. If it was at my house I would have to do something about it.

My thoughts exactly, it doesn’t take much to level something, even by eye using the brick line!

Appologies for gate crashing the thread but at long last our street was cabled today and is now in the chamber on the footway .
My question: Should the wiremen always run the cable up to the house (CSP)

Completely agree. I was at work when it was done my wife took the pic. Got home and it's rubbish. Other houses there is no wire showing. Believe they are back on the estate tomorrow so hopefully get them to sort it.

I think it depends on your house. Does it already have ducting? Also it didn't happen at the same time. Cable was out in the road a long time ago.

Our Community Fibre Partnership project with Opereach is about to go live and all the UG fed properties have had CSPs (or demarcation box as it now seems to be called) fitted as part of a new policy to build to the wall, thus avoiding delays and issues when customers order. The lead in is connected to the CBT and lit already in our case. OH Fed CSPs are still done at time of order under the policy.

Yes I have Ducting, it’s been roded and there’s a pull rope. The road was done today but they’ve got some cleaning up to do tomorrow so if they should install to the wall I’ll challenge them.

Spoke to engineer who was back on the estate today and he popped round and tidied it up. Said the fibre is ready and being tested today, should be able to order any day now.

If that fails looks like you can get some capping yourself here: Capping

Yes, we had to move our CSP, too. Very poor finish.

Looks perfectly good when compared to the bodge 'Kowboy Communications' made of ours, and the inside was even worse!

Think thats what they have done, happy with it now.

That’s a result - had visions of them denying knowing what you meant or not having any with them!

Still looks like a bodge though. That would annoy me every time I saw it.
|

Still a bodge - and badly done.
Look at the screws on the foot - one Slotted and One a Pozi/slot hybrid, although they are both round head.
Then, the capping - countersuck screws where they should be round or pan head.
Remains on the **ss and the capping should meet the boot or and internal joint fitted.

Good that it’s sorted … bad that they didn’t take the time to do it right the first time.

You don't really see it where it is and I'll have full fibre broadband. If someone had said to me 12 months ago would you be ok with a slightly ugly box outside your house but FTTP I'd take the FTTP all day long.

This is why I want to do as much stuff myself as possible - I just don't trust the majority of installers who turn up for free as part of your service to be any good at doing things like "using a spirit level" and "not blowing half a brick out the wall with a drill"
