Fibre Broadband

[link to this post]

I recently wanted to upgrade to a faster broadband speed with my present ISP ( BT ) . This meant running another cable ( fibre ) along side my present line from a telegraph pole which is six gardens away. If I change to Vodaphone will they use the same installation method or will they use the new underground Cityfibre line installed running past my front gate??

If you're currently taking a fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) service from BT then it's delivered over Openreach infrastructure.

Vodafone deliver over either Openreach or Cityfibre infrastructure, depending on what's in your area. A Cityfibre service will always be over a completely different fibre cable than an Openreach cable. Cityfibre do use both aerial delivery (poles), underground (via their own microducts) and underground (via Openreach ducts), depending on the area.

If there's a Cityfibre Toby box sitting outside your property, then when you order from Vodafone then they'll run a new fibre to that - and hence drill a new hole in your wall for a new ONT.
